I Do Not Have My Hands Full!!!!

I am so tired of people saying, "Oh you have your hands full." No I don't actually I am just fine thanks! I go on field trips with four toddlers all the time and am so sick of hearing that and need a clever response. I am a Mom of four soon to be five when our 17 year old foster son comes home to us full time and love having a big family. I have 8 daycare kids on different schedules and help care for my niece and nephews on weekends. I LOVE kids and do not feel my hands are full. We have a great schedule, have fun, act silly and still keep order. I am one of five children and my DH is one of eight. 30 years ago big families were common now if you have more then two kids...you have your hands full! ::::::

LOL. I get that all the time when I only have my 2 boys out and about (1yo & 2yo). I don't have the heart to tell most of them I have 2 older girls at home. I just smile, and say they like to create chaos.

        Yes, a t-shirt.

How do I have so many kids?

          My favorite responses

1.) If you think my hands are full, you should see my heart. (I actually saw that on a tshirt!)

2.) Yeah, it keeps me out of trouble!

I used to say 'better full than empty', but I read that those dealing with infertility are hurt by that, so I've stopped. I wanna be nice, not snarky.

When they say, "wow, you have your hands full!" How about answering ".... of love!"

Why the need for a snarky response? I find it's generally just people trying to start a conversation.

Why not just say something nice like "Yes, it's a labor of love." or something to that effect?

I've had this before. I just reply "Yep! And I'm loving every second of it!"

Someone said this to me just recently. I said, "I sure do, but I'm having so much fun." Which was the truth.

I hear that ALL the time !

I think people have this vision of how their kids act for them at their worst, and then multiply it by 8

In reality, the kids play with each other and get on schedules very quickly. People dont give kids enough credit.

And people don't understand that 4+ kids are sometimes easier than 1, because you don't have to entertain one child- they do that for each other. We just provide loving guidance

1 is the worst number, unless it's a baby.
