    Waking Up DCKs From Naps

Do you guys always wake the kids up from naps if they're still sleeping after a certain amount of time?

I have 19mo dcb, 2yo dd, 9mo dcb and 3mo dcg. I let the 3mo sleep whenever and however long she wants. 9mo takes two naps, am and pm usually 3-4 hours in the am and 2-3 hours in the pm. 19mo willingly takes am and pm naps as well. Sometimes he'll even sleep 5 hours in the am and take another 3 hour nap in the afternoon. If I don't put him down in his pnp he will just stop wherever he is and start sleeping. Usually in the living room. And then dd takes one pm nap a day, 2-3 hours long.

I use baby connect so all my dcp know how long their babies are sleeping and no one has a problem with the long hours at all. Usually if they wake up early or get woken up they are extremely angry and grumpy...

Maybe it's just the atmosphere in our home, but there's a lot of sleepy heads here!

    Nope.

I only wake sleeping kids if it has been 3 hours, or if its time for pick up. All parents are on board with this. I feel that if a child is sleeping it is for a reason (sick, growth spurt, etc).

I let them sleep till they wake up and all my parents are absolutely fine with it. One of mine actually said they notice if their child wakes up before they are ready, they are a bear. Two of mine can easliy sleep 3+ hours sometimes and still be in bed by 8 or 9 at night.

I personally have a hard time with alarm clocks or people waking me up. My body actually needs to be able to wake up on its own. I think that is why when I was sick I slept so much. My body was very tired and needed sleep on its own clock. I've always required alot of sleep throughout my whole life.

Some kids I let sleep, others I wake. Depends on the temperament of the child and wishes of the parents. However, I let everyone sleep at least 2 hours. I do wake kids after 3:30 because we need to go outside and get ready for pick up time.

My dd and all dcks, except the 19mo, sleep through the night too and are happier kids when they can sleep as long as they need/want to

              Wow! Really?!

I had a friend that used to take cold wet wash rags to keep her baby awake when he was not even a week old. It was so mean she wanted to sleep train him at that age. I wish it had been illegal, it seemed abusive

I remember asking my doctor about my dd sleep habits. She used to sleep a lot during the day and all night... He said sleep is so important for their development, to just let her sleep all she wants! So that's what I believe

I let them sleep and wake up on their own. mine all nap in the daycare room though. So once 330 hits, which is about 3 hours from the start of nap time, we turn off the sleepy music and clean up our mats and quietly resume to normal daycare room activities. Generally they wake up, but I have had on occasion one that will just continue to sleep.

If I have one that is approaching pick up time. I text mom or dad and say Johnny is still sleeping will arouse him around 4 if not awake yet so he will be ready to go at 430.

Ever since I started doing daycare, my own kids could tell you "never wake a sleeping child". I still live to that statement. If they're still sleeping then they must still be tired.

I don't wake up my kids. All three sleep in separate rooms, allowing each to sleep as long as they like. The baby is always right by me when he naps twice a day, he has music to block out noises. My son sleeps in his own room and wakes up when he's ready. My 3 yo daycare girl will usually sleep 3-4 hours or until her parents pick her up. I asked them if she slept enough at home, and I think she does, but she has very early mornings. Even if I did get reimbursed for the pm snack that they sleep through most of the time, I wouldn't wake them up. I believe kids sleep as long as they need.

I have to. My kiddos all go down for nap at 12:30pm and I have to wake them (if not up) by 3:00pm b/c we have to walk to the bus stop to pick up my DD. She is in 1st grade and a parent/designated person HAS to be physically present or the bus driver won't let her off the bus.

I wish I didn't have to, though! I have one DCB who I am waking up to walk to the bus stop very often. But, they all still get in a solid 2 and a half hour nap.

Next year will be a different story... she can get off the bus and walk home without me! Yay!

I rarely wake them if they're still sleeping. I will wake them when it's close to pick-up time, though, to get them up and ready. I try to wake them gently. I open the naproom door and call softly, "Wakey, wakey!" and anyone who is awake leaps up instantly. I call again for anyone still sleeping, and a third time, and if someone is still sleeping after that...well...I let 'em be for another fifteen or twenty minutes!

I do wake my littlest dcbaby if he's still sleeping close to 5 and has been asleep for at least two hours. The dcparents hate it when he doesn't take all of his bottles BUT they sometimes don't pick up right at 5, so it's a total crapshoot--do I wake him and have him fed and ready to go at 5 only to have that be a night they don't pick up until late? Or do I let him sleep and find that they arrive right at 5 on the dot and are grumpy? Hmm...decisions, decisions...
