    Drooling' FOOL!

Alright ... So I have had 1.5yo dcb since last October. When he started with me he was teething and drooling all. Over. Everything. All the time!

He has since stopped teething for the most part. He wasn't really drooling much and I've been working with him NON stop with NOT mouthing everything in sight since he started.

Lately I've noticed more drool AGAIN. I thought to myself, "great... Here we go again!"

But today I was watching him and realized HE'S doing it! He collects drool in his mouth and then let's it run out of his mouth and down his shirt and onto whatever it happens to hit (the floor, toys, other children etc...).

WTH?!?! My carpet has spots from the drool that goes unnoticed and then dirt collects... Everything else is covered constantly... What am I supposed to do?? Do I section a spot off and put paper down??

    Very frustrated!!

This is also the dcb with the diaper hands and nap terrors BTW! He's a mess!

HELP please!! I need suggestions

That's what he acts like! I hate to say this but sometimes I wonder if he's not on the "spectrum". There's lots of signs

I have an almost 2 yr. old that drools!! He has been behind on every developmental stage!! He just started walking at 21 months, never sat up at all. He started crawling at 11 months. He isn't talking much at all either. I have mentioned a ton of different things to his parents, but I think they think he is fine!! I am a nurse, and I seen something not quite right at about 5 months old. I have been telling them, all along, I am really working on this and now this, etc.. He is 2 and cannot pick up a spoon and eat. He has a pacifier in 24/7 at home, only at naptime here. He can't live without his paci and lovie at home, so she says- !!

I have one too. She's been with me since she was 10 months old and is 19 months now. I keep a bib on her all the time or I'd be changing her clothes all day. In the last few weeks, I've started saying "Swallow". At first, I'd make a big gulping motion to show swallowing but she's caught on now. It's like she just forgets to swallow for some reason.

She isn't developmentally behind in any area--she is the most coordinated and very, very smart. She does still have a paci at nap time. We had her weaned, but she went off for a visitation with her dad and came back with her paci again. It doesn't bother me. I don't let her have it unless she is in the pnp, and she's fine with that.

My ds who is 2.5 has been massively drooling since he was two months old, but didn't pop his first tooth until almost 8 months. He still drools very badly, although some days are worse than others and he will go through a few shirts/day. Keeping a bib on just isn't even a option with him anymore He is developmentally on track, just drools a lot. We have gone to the pediatrician and basically he told me that it isn't anything to worry about but that he hasn't gotten in any of his 2 year molars yet. I did find a few exercises to do with him though that some claim to help. Using only straw cups because it strengthens their oral muscles, using an electric toothbrush to stimulate their mouths and using peanut butter in their mouths (obviously when it's safe to do so) to work the muscles. The pediatrician said in most cases the kids grow out of it, but he wouldn't be too concerned about it until he gets closer to kinder age.

These are all interesting comments. I might try some of those ideas to strengthen his muscles.

He still doesn't talk, he just grunts and moans, and does that whiny cry scream when he wants stuff (not with me, only when his mom is present). He has a really weird walk, kind of like a penguin... And he moves his head in a swaying way with the walk.. It's cute but weird? KWIM? He has no idea what to do with utensils.. He does drink good from a straw though. He has to have a hand foot or toy in his mouth at all times or he's not happy. He flinches a lot too.

He does seem to understand almost everything I say, except yesterday I changed his diaper and was dressing him... I held up his pants and said "feet!" and he stuck his head in his pants!! My DH and I just started cracking up! It was so stinkin cute!

I am up for suggestions on the drooling too.

My own 17 mos old DD has all the sudden been a drooling fool too! She never had a rough time teething and barely drooled at all her entire 17 mos until a few weeks ago. It is constant all day long. Her first set of molors are all the way in so its not that. Its just plain wierd. She does not have any kind of binki or lovee. When she is throwing a fit it is even WORSE. Sometimes I think she is taking drama classes from her older sisters. She just loves to get the snot, mixed with drool and tears all over her face for the added effect!

Oh my! This made me laugh! I have drama queens too! It's a girl thing for sure ::

This little guy has his molars too, it's hard to imagine its still teething  but who knows... How long do they "teeth (sp?)" is it just until they get their first set of baby teeth or does it last a lot longer?

I know kids like to play with spit. I notice him doing the spit bubbles and the the pool of spit falls out like a fountain....

Most kids are good after they get their 2 year molars in, which my pediatrician said that once those come in the drooling SHOULD subside and if not we look at speech therapy (which obviously wouldn't do any good until he is a bit older anyways). I keep having re-occurring dreams that he is in the 3rd grade and has to take a towel with him for his desk because of his drool! The pediatrician laughed at me when I told him this , but the thought is always in the back of my mind!

I bought the cups that have the straws but require even more ****ing power to get the drink out...they have some type of valve in there so it makes it kind of hard. At first he had trouble getting anything out of the cups, but even the trying itself is good for the muscles.

Are the parents at all concerned about the drooling or have they mentioned anything about it? It might not be a bad idea to have them checked out by a pediatrician, at least to keep an eye on it. Ds has to go back every year to be re-evaluated for the drooling, and also his walking (he walks with his toes pointed in..can't think of what it's called right now ) It doesn't affect his gait any except when he's tired...then he's tripping over them! One thing about the feet turning inward that the doc suggested was to make sure he doesn't do the W sit at all, as that will make it worse and is also bad for his hips.

OH MY GOD! That's how this little guy walks too! Toes pointed in and kind of waddles. No the parents don't care at all. At his home he is more of a "pet" than a son. I think that may be why he's so behind possibly. He doesn't get too much attention, just kind of runs wild, literally.

my almost 2 yr. old daycare boy, walks like this also. He looks like he is about 13 months old, with his walking, like he has just started. I took him in the grass, and he pinced and grasped onto me, holding on for dear life. I finally let him go, he didn't know what to do in it- WOW!!!
