How Long Are You Contagious With The Flu Bug

How long should a person be contagious with a flu bug? Just talked to my friend who was telling me her whole family had the flu bug about 2 weeks ago. After their family had it, they went to two other friends houses about 5 days later and both of those families became sick. Then who knows who those families came in contact with making more sick.

Anyway I was thinking once you were done with the flu, it was gone but doesn't sound like it.

I've always heard you are contagious for up to like seven weeks after...especially feces. You can pass it on anytime in that time frame...it just depends on the strain.

I always thought it was 2-3 before symptoms appeared but there is a really strange flu bug going around that just doesn't seem to die. Normally we would get the flu here and within 5 days it was in, out, sterilized and done until the next year. Everyone got it once and then it was over but this year it seems to be really staggered. DS got sick, 3 days later DD and I got sick, 6 days later DD got sick and 2 days after that DH got sick. It was the strangest thing! I kept thinking DD and DH had dodged the bullet but they didn't. Then about 3 weeks later another bug came through my daycare and it was the same thing. DCG was sick one day and we only got it like a week later. And it was really strange because the actual flu lasted like 3-4 days with days where we felt fine in between. Normally a person gets the flu and the next day they are fine.
Strange weather is creating strange flu bugs IMO.
