Repetitive Loud Noise Instead Of Words. Ugh!

Is there any way to encourage an almost 2 year old to stop pointing and going "uuuuuuuh! uuuuuuuuh!" in a ridiculously loud voice? They know a lot of words, and definitely understand most everything they're told, but it seems like they're just refusing to use words in favor of "the noise". It drives me up. the. wall!!!

You probably already did this, but have you told them to use their words? Do not give them anything they ask for unless they say the word, or at least try to say it.

They will pitch a fit at first, but eventually they will get it and attempt to speak properly.

I will say use your words and if they still do it, I walk away. If they throw a tanturm and get upset, I let them be for a min and then will ask Johnny what do you need? Please use your words. If they do it again walk away. Like PP said, they will figure it out and start at least trying to use their words.

I make all of the kids ask to be excused from the table, but my 20 month old can't say that, so I tell him say ALL DONE, and she does....

Try telling the child Only babies do not use their words. If you are not going to use your words then you can not have big boy toys, big boy outside play ect ..
