Alternative to These Cars from Lakeshore Learning?

I would really like to replace my matchbox car collection with this bucket of cars & trucks from www.Lakeshorelearning.com

The problem is I just can't bring myself to the $50 plus tax/shipping price tag that comes with it.

The kids love the matchbox cars, but they fall apart so easy. I'm always scared a piece will fall off & someone could choke.

Does anyone have these cars or know of a cheaper alternative?

Our extra-chunky vehicles are made of heavy-duty plastic, so they’re tough enough for years and years of indoor and outdoor adventures! Our big set includes 25 smooth-rolling cars, trucks, wagons and more—all with rounded edges for safe play. Vehicles come in an easy-tote plastic tub. Cars measure 3 1/2" in length.

I don't have matchbook cars out in play. We have a bin of them but they are only brought out when an adult can directly supervise right at the point they are playing. They are just too flimsy.

I have all the little people cars and cars that go with the duplo primo blocks. We have the Thomas/Brio collection too.

I have those and the kids love them but I think I paid like $12 at constructive playthings I bought the construction set which is smaller and at one of the 1/2 price sales that are in the flyer that comes out each season.

They are sturdy but the older kids that love hot wheels aren't crazy about them... oh well so sad. use something else.

funny, I have a mixture of those cars, hotwheels and match box cars. well all the kids love hotwheel cars, even the girls love them. The other day my ds brought down a bunch of his hotwheels stuff and all the kids have been playing non stop. the other cars just sit there, the kids don't like them at all.

              I have these: http://www.amazon.com/Viking-AW41140.../dp/B0006OHN7I

(Actually an older version, I think) made by Viking Toys. I really love them and we use them all the time. I also have some matchbox cars, though and the kids prefer those when they are building tracks with the waffle blocks. If you have those, the Viking cars are just a bit wide to drive comfortably on the tracks.

Thanks!! I just purchased these! I found a 30 piece set on Amazon for $25 & yesterday I bought a $10 gift card for $5.

                I'm pretty excited!
