    Early arrival= $1/minute?

What is your opinion on this situation?
My hours are 7a.m.-5:30p.m. although I do have contracted hours with a 15 minute grace period. I have one family that I open an hour early for and they pay an extra $20/day.
So they are here 6:00a.m.-4:30 p.m.,mom works three 12 hour shifts a week but they switch every week so she pays full time plus the extra for opening early and staying past my 10 hours a day minimum.Ok,anyway,I'm getting side tracked.
Another family found out about their hours and started showing up a little before 7a.m a few times.I didn't have the kids early that day so they just sat ouside the door and waited. I thought they would get the point but apparently not because this morning they showed up at 6:00a.m.WHAT????
The other kids were already here so she just walked right in.I told her that her contrected times were from 7:00a.m.-4:00p.m. and that I expected her to follow them.
She looked at me like I was crazy and kept taking her kids shoes off.I told her I was serious and that she needed to leave and come back at her contracted time. She lives a half hour away so she probably would of had to just sit in the driveway. What would you have done? I finally told her that her child could stay but that I was charging her a $1/minute.Her response was-"Oh well I was just going to meet a friend for breakfast I guess I can take her with me!"
My response was"You bet you're taking her with you and the next time you show up a minute before your contracted time the only thing you're getting is termination papers.
Then she had the nerve to ask me when she dropped her child off at 7:00a.m
"I was thinking, why would you charge me a dollar a minute when you only charge them $20 for an extra hour?" I said "Why don't you think about that and get back to me because if I answer that question it won't be pretty!"
I don't take any crap from people but that doesn't keep them from trying.
    What would you have done?

First of all, what is in your contract? If you have the $1/minute before pick up time, then charge it by all means. Heck that is an extra $60 for you!

If there is nothing in your contract, I would ammend your contract asap. Also, make it known to that mom and there have been prior arrangements made with said family and just because those arrangements were made for that family, they do not carry over to all other families. Her contracted time is set for a reason.

I'm glad to hear you didn't totally flip out on her. I would have for sure!

I would have just told mom, yes, it is $20.00 more per day if you make arrangements in advance like this family has done and it must be a consistent change in your schedule.
If you don't want to drop off without notice or from time to time, it will be $1.00 per min prior to your arrival time per child.

I don't argue with the DCP. I treat them the way I want to be treated and if they treat me any differently, then I put my foot down.

Do you have a contract and PHB, what does it say?

1st of all...she would have gotten chewed out for walking in my door.

2nd...you did the right thing but I probably would have approached it a little differently.

Me: "What are you doing here? It's only 6am?!"

DCM: Going out for breakfast, blah, blah, blah

Me: "I sure hope you know that breakfast is going to be super expensive! I charge $1.00 per minute for anything above and beyond our contracted hours. And, no, that doesn't mean you can avoid it by picking up Suzie an hour early either. I need $60 cash on the spot if you want Suzie to stay this morning. Otherwise, I'll see you in an hour."

Bringing up other parents contracted hours, schedules, rates, etc is none of her business. Each contract is specific to a parents needs. I'd be sending home a 30 day probation letter today. Keep it up and it's a one way ticket out the door.

She's not even my client and it p!sses me off! Entitled parents! GRRR!
