DC Kid With Constant Runny Nose

Do you think it is okay to ask a dc mom to not bring her son to daycare if he is constantly having a runny nose? My sick policy says not to come if he has a fever...he doesn't have a fever. I have a 2 year old dcb who comes part-time. He has had a runny nose off and on since the first day he came in Jan. He keeps getting us sick over and over again. At this age they are not able to cover their mouths or blow/clean their noses. I can't stand it! Body fluids already get me grossed out and between the runny nose and the drooling from not being able to breathe, I don't like being around him or him around the other children. I do wipe the kids noses but with him it is constant and drips/falls all over the place and kids...don't mean to gross anyone out. I am also tired of being sick and getting my kids sick. Right when my kids are getting over it he comes to dc and then a day or so later the other kids are sick again. What should I do?

I think you should term him if he really is that sick all the time. You are probably losing more time and money with your family being sick than the money you get off of caring for him. I dont do constant boogers either. I had one drop in kid that was like this and had already decided that I would say no if his mom ever needed part or full time care.

I am in your same boat.

DCB (15 mos) had a runny nose ever since he came 5 mos ago, and we kept getting sick. I was ready to term. I stopped giving him all dairy products at my house 2 weeks ago (bc it was giving him diaharea) and it has been exactly 2 weeks since his last runny nose.

It COULD be a coincidence, but he has been sick for 5 months straight with something so maybe it was dairy? (I got that idea from this forum and I think it was the dairy). The parents are still clueless. Anyway....

Other than that, I never called the parents because it will not do any good- even if they keep the child home for a runny nose, it sounds like the runny nose will still be there when they come back to your house if its there all the time. You have to decide whether or not to start a game plan to stop the runny nose (try avoiding indoor allergies, dairy, try probiotics, etc), or term, if it is really there all day every day. Runny noses are so nasty! If my dcb's returns I might still term- I am sick of getting sick!

What I don't understand though is if it was from a milk allergy how were you guys getting sick from his runny nose. It was an allergy runny nose not a virus runny nose?

Tell her you need a Dr note that he is not contagious and able to come to care. I had one that ran all the time and when i said I needed a note the Dr put the child opn Claritin for allergies. It helped big time!

Beats me... I have no idea but ever since I cut out dairy he has been totally fine, and this is the only change in the 5 months I had him.

Oh I see what you are saying- how did WE get sick? I don't know- maybe the excess mucus just got on things combined with the fact that he is a little kid so he mouths everything???

I am just glad the kid is not sick currently!!!

                Update

Confronted mom yesterday. I told her that she needed to do something about drying him up or taking him to the doctor because if I get sick one more time I'm closing down and all the families will be affected. I even suggested allegy meds. She tried telling me that he doesn't do that on the weekends...had to keep myself from laughing. Well he didn't show up today and I told her he can't come on Wednesday my son's speech therapist is coming and she can't be around sick kids or she will get all her clients sick. Let's see what happens on Thursday. Thanks everybody!
