    Flu Shots Questioned On 20/20

Never had a flu shot before so I'm not sure how well they work. I've heard you can get sick from them but they actually prevent you from getting the actual disease.

On 20/20 Friday night I believe they were showing a girl who was 25 that had received one and within a few days she was not herself anymore. Couldn't walk standing up, seizures, short term memory gone, started studdering and speaking with a British Accent, couldn't do any type of math even though she was studying to be a financial person, etc.

She tried several doctors, cures, etc. and nothing has really worked. They are saying its a nurological problem or she's making it all up. I don't think shes making it up but what in a vaccine causes this. Also, why do they only effect some people this way and not others.

I also found interesting that only the flu shot had done this to her, not all her previous vaccines. So I guess its coming down to a Russian Roulette almost of what vaccine will do it to your body and not someone elses and then another one does it to someone else but not you.

I'm wondering if they will now see this happening to more adults with the flu shot that were never effected by other vaccines as children.

I have a very interesting story about getting a flu shot. It is a bit long...I will try to bottom line it for everyone!

In 1998, I was working at a residential school as a teacher. On one shift, I was given a flu shot. Within seconds of getting it, literally, I felt dizzy and my vision was wavy. The people who gave it to me said I was having a slight reaction and eventually (about 20 minutes later) I felt normal again. I had never had a flu shot or an allergic reaction to anything.

Two weeks later, I lost vision in my right eye, completely. It has never returned. At the time, there was no known cause for the vision loss. I underwent a zillion tests, and was studied in depth at several hospitals. There was never a reason for the vision loss, and it was never known if I would suddenly lose vision in my other eye.

Fast forward to 2005. I started to get really bad headaches, which ended in a trip to the emergency room. When I was there, I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. I had to have a craniotomy to find out what was causing the tumor. I was diagnosed with something called neurosarcoidosis. It is an autoimmune deficiency that I will have forever. I do not have any tumors right now, but I could relapse at any time. I also have a thyroid condition, arthritis, and psoriaris. All of these conditions are autoimmune illnesses.

It has never been directly tied to the flu shot, but it is widely believed, by many of the doctors I dealt with, to be an adverse reaction to that first flu shot. The general consensus is that the flu shot, for whatever reason, set off something in my body that led to the development of all of these illnesses.

Needless to say, I have not had a flu shot since, and I do not give them to my children.

Here is a story correlating H1N1 vax with increased risk of miscarriage. I opted to not recieve the flu shot while pregnant.
I feel that the flu is part of life. We do vaccinate though. I am just skeptical about new vaccines, where they were rushed into production. I'm just reading a new book -Vaccine Epidemic. It's worth checking out.

When I was preggo with my last child all of the doctors kept pressuring me to get a flu shot too. I did not get one. They really pressure pregnant women and children and elderly people to get it.

I am not sure how I feel about the shot- maybe I will check that book out after all!

What’s in your H1N1 flu vaccine?

          EXCELLENT article here!
Is the cure really worse than the disease? Let’s look at some numbers.

Never had the flu shot, and I never will. And guess what? I hardly ever get the actual flu.

I think the only flu my family has gotten was H1N1 and it was very, VERY minor compared to many people's experiences with it.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

Many people I knew who had it said it wasn't as bad a any old seasonal flu. That flu shot made a ton of $ for big pharma.

Here in Ontario its crazy with the flu shot. I have never and never get one and neither will my children. They are rarely sick. Now I had the one family who did get it and she is constantly sick. I even told mom that I found it weird that she got the flu shot and she is the sickest. Today her nose is running again. What I don't understand is that if you keep getting the flu shot how are you suppose to build immunity. Oh I have another family get the shot too, same thing they are constantly sick.
