I apologize for starting a new thread for this but I am SO SO bad at the search feature. A few weeks ago someone commented in an art thread that they use crayons in hot glue guns for an art activity. I am dying to try this with my group and am looking for few details. (Are they regular run of the mill low-temp glue guns? Regular Crayola crayons? What about the surface you apply the melted crayon to - in my mind regular paper would be too fragile. Do you use canvas? Foil?) Thanks in advance!

Thanks for asking about this Dave. As soon as I read that thread I was on the phone to a friend and saying "in all these years how come we never thought of doing that!".Each day is a fresh start

We use glue guns to glue wood and cardboard together...it just seems to hold better and make it easier then trying to use regular glue.
As far as the crayons, we have experimented with a few types. Crayola brand melts better, but are a little too fat for the mini glue guns. The rose art and other off brand ones are skinnier, but dont melt as well. I plan on purchasing larger guns so the crayola crayons fit better.
We do use cardboard, wood, or canvas for our melted crayon art, regular paper is too thin.
I know some people gasp at the thought of giving them glue guns, but here's a good post on using them with the kids. I love Teacher Tom.
