I wouldn't send him home unless he wasn't doing well after treatments or having other symptoms. As far as being pregnant and using it goes, you are fine. Have you ever used one before? Did the mom give you good instructions? I found it easier to set a young baby like that in a car seat or bouncer so I could talk to them during the treatment. If the baby screams through the treatment don't panic, it still works for them.

It's certainly safe, it's a question of if you want to deal with it or not (or what is in your policies). Ds used one a lot for asthma until he was old enough to use an inhaler. He wasn't in daycare, but he was certainly perfectly healthy and able to participate, he just needed a dose in the middle of the day to help keep his lungs clear.

There was another thread quite a bit ago about nebulizers. It caused a bit of a debate. Some providers choose not to allow it based on the following points:

1- If a child needs a breathing treatment in the middle of the day; then technically they probably aren't well enough to participate in daycare.
2- It's not like giving any other meds. It's very time consuming (10-15 minutes per dose depending on the Rx). You can't really tend to the other children during this time.

Those that choose to allow it argue that children with asthma symptoms would have to be kept home almost every single day if all daycare providers refused to give nebulizer treatments. My own DS has asthma, and has needed nebulizer treatments off and on from the time he was 6 mo. At the time he was in a daycare; and I thank God they agreed to give him the treatments! He got sick quite often; and when he got sick he would need nebulizer treatments 3 times per day for 1-2 weeks. As a working mom, there is no way I could've kept him home 1-2 weeks every single month. No job would allow for it. I do understand providers who keep 6+ kids by themselves who just wouldn't be able to do it based on the time factor. When you are looking after that many kids of young ages; it would be very very difficult to manage giving a treatment that required so much time and one-on-one care.

its not because of allergies.. It is a bad cold is what im told, apparently the dr said he was worried it would turn into pnemonia if not treated with a nebulizer..

I personally do not do nebs. I have been guilted every which way to do them, but it's in my hanbook that I do not and will not. However, I think it's great that many daycare will do them, because it's true, parents can't miss so much when they have a child who frequently requires nebs.

My own child had asthma related to severe allergies and if he wasn't able to medicate every four hours could have died. The school district allows it and I have no problem doing so. If your only concern is because you are pregnant then maybe a call to your doctor would be in order.
                I see little people.

My daughter has to use a nebulizer and it really should cause no issues for your pregnancy. I'm lucky enough that the provider that she went to had a preemie baby of her own years ago and was fine with it.
