    Snowballs For Breakfast Ugh

WTH is wrong with people??

So I found out from my assistant today that last week one of my dcks asked if we were having Snowballs for snack (um, NO!) and then told her that dcm gave him and his sister Snowballs for breakfast that morning. Ugh! REALLY???

This is the brother of my "wild child" 2yo dcg who almost broke my nose.

No discipline, lots of sugar before drop-off = an absolute nightmare for me.

She KNOWS I have issues with dcg's behavior and I really feel like this is a no-brainer on her part. This same dcm always talks about running, going to the gym, etc. so SHE KNOWS BETTER! If I thought she was ignorant, it might be different.

How do I bring this up tactfully without dressing dcm down? I am so mad at her right now.

I really hate this part of my job.

maybe you could find a day when she served something better, if that ever happens, and brag a little. Then say how you could see uch a difference in kids when they eat healthy instead of sugar. Or....
Feed um some snowballs right before they go home. Tell her they told you how good they were so you got them some (wink)
Good luck. I am sure you will handle it great.
I can't believe it when they come in with ****er all over them or screaming cause mommy took their ****er away in the car.

I used to eat the raspberry snowballs for breakfast all the time! Mmmmm! Yummy! But that is beside the point,

I do think sugar contributes to some bad behaviors but I highly doubt it is the root cause if these bad behaviors that you have talked about. I am sure that has more to do with routines and rules at home (or lack of).

You can't really control what a parent does before, after or outside of daycare and I think if you confront mom on this, she is not going to be happy about it. She will either lie or she will tell you this kind of thing only happens once in a while.

If you are going to talk with mom about anything, it should be more about how to collectively manage the poor behaviors that are going on and what you two can do to work together to solve these issues.

If this is a family that simply has a completely different life style and different beliefs than you, this will be a never ending battle.

If I were in your shoes, I would concentrate more on what things you can do while the dck's are in your care to change their behaviors and to teach, model and support those things.

I have a couple dck's who eat nothing but junk and have VERY permissive parents but when those kids are at my house, you would never know they lived such a double lifestyle.

We had a child come in with a Hershey Bar for breakfast. Needless to say, we didn't give it to her.

do you offer breakfast, if you don't then this might be a good chance to do it. Most of my kids don't eat till they get here, so I know what they get all day, except for the pogo stick boy, he comes after lunch.

I have a 2yo dcg who comes in almost EVERY morning with packaged brownies for breakfast. I can still hardly believe that passes as a good breakfast to them. If she is finishing it as she walks in the door, then that is on them, but if she comes in with it still in the package, she takes it back home at the end of the day still in the package. I serve breakfast here.

Maddy's Mom Google Hostess Snowballs...it is in the same category as a twinkie or a hostess cupcake. I had a DCB who behaved the same way & one day his parent couldn't find his cell phone. He asked me to look in the child's lunchbox and I was astonished that there was not one single food item in there. I asked him if he was buying lunch that day thinking maybe that was his snack. He said no & proceeded to point out his awesome lunch to me. I most keeled over. My kids don't get all of that stuff in 1 week let alone 1 lunch...& they are teens. And I wondered about his behavior...

I must have some rare kids because my two hardest kids come from extremely healthy, healthy eating homes. Organic milks, everything from scratch, lots of outdoor time (long hikes, playing hard), homemade smoothies. One of them was telling me how they love the spinach banana smoothies the parents make.

They both have lots of high energy, fits, aggression, stubborness, etc. So I sometimes doen't always agree that is totally what the kids eat.
