    Help! DCG Hysterical

Dcm told me Sun that dcg had fever and would go to doc and stay home Mon. Dcm texted that was just a cold and dcg on antibiotics. They brought dcg today. She has been hysterical. Screamed at top of lungs because she said another dcg took a toy from her. 10 mins screaming. A fly came in the house, and she screamed and cried hysterically about it. Bit her finger bc she was crying so hard and cried more.

I tried to lay her down in case she was tired. Didn't want to sleep. She is 2.5 and throws tantrums but not to this extent before today.

Do you think she's just miserable or acting her age? I hope they didn't give her fever reducer and send her bc they told me I could give her some if needed. I don't do meds without doc note bc against my regs.

Anytime a child visits the doctor, I require a note indicating free of all illness/disease or the diagnosis, medication (if any) and care plan (no milk, etc).

I wouldn't take moms word that DCG just has a cold.

What time did she get dropped off?

I would try for an hour or two. If her demeanor doesn't change, I would request pick up. Clearly she isn't well enough to participate and needs to be home.

I've taken my kids to the doctor before when they have had a cold, and I thought it may be more, only to be reassured that it was JUST a cold!! The doctor never prescribed antibiotics for a cold before! I would definitely call the mom on this fact and ask her to have the doctor write up a note about their visit and what the dcg is being treated for with antibiotics. Most likely it's something more

They do not prescribe antibiotics for colds. Bacterial infections yes, viruses no.

Ummm, colds don't require antibiotics. Call mom and tell her to come get her dd because her "cold" isn't any better.

I agree with all of the posters above. They do not prescribe antibiotics for a cold. A cold is a virus and antibiotics don't work on them they just have to run their course. Ask mom what kind of an infection she has because you don't want anyone else getting sick!

                    !

I just found out this morning that the dcm didn't even see the regular doctor when she got the antibiotics. Their doc wasn't around, so a different doc prescribed antibiotics that the child had never had. After her behavior was so erratic, they called the reg doctor. The reg dr. said he would have never given dcg those meds. He called in a different prescription.

Dcg gets sick about every month, which is why the doctor prescribes antibiotics. (I think). I don't agree with her doctor. When my dd had colds every few weeks during winter last year, he referred us to a specialist. The specialist gave her a super duty antibiotic instead of taking out her adenoids. If she'd gotten sick again, he would have done the surgery.

Dcg got sick last year as often as my dd and keeps getting sick, but her dr. has never sent the parents to a specialist.

I have one now whose doc gives them "go away" anti-biotics for "Mommyitis", often (amox).

Yes, I have heard this tongue-in-cheek diagnosis in the ER many times... (it is similar to treatment of "jailitis" which is generally sudden chest pain or difficulty in breathing in the recently arrested )

IME, Typically it is only done with the Mom's who are "frequent fliers" as palliative psychological care for Mom while little one heals themself. You'd be shocked at the trivial things people show up at the ER with. It is absurd.

Personally, I'd call and tell her she is too ill to participate in activities so needs to be picked up. It will give them the weekend to get better or get her back to the correct doctor for a real diagnosis before the weekend hits.

Ugh....just saw the original post date... Oh, well..
