    License Fees/ Rules

Another post brought this to my attention. How much do you pay for license and how long is it good for?

How often are you inspected? Announced or unannounced?

What are some license rules you do not agree with?

Do you know your licensor personally or is it just a random person from the county or state?

Our licenses are 150 per two years.

Inspected in a once every two years relicense inspection unless complaints are made then you are subject to an unannounced visit. When you are up for relicense they mail you a notice stating that they will arrive unannounced during a particular month so it's pretty much announced.

I don't know of any license rules I don't agree with. Our licensor isn't out to get you. Fair guy.

I know my licensor personally. Here we only have two licensors, you attend trainings with them prior to getting your license. I've emailed questions, he emails right back.

$25 each year for licensing. Must have completed 20 hours minimum of ongoing child development classes. $60 kitchen inspection every other year. First Aid and CPR training must be up to date.

Once announced, right before re-licensing... where they go over EVERY, SINGLE, TINY part of our paperwork and a very thorough inspection inside and out. Pages and pages of things to check off.
And then one un-announced.....takes about 10 minutes. Mainly checking for obvious problems, over ratio etc.

What are some license rules you do not agree with?
Some of the paperwork is silly, but on the whole, the rules are fair. I hate going to mandatory trainings, that I have to pay for.....that teach me "how to diaper a child" After 4 kids and 27 years of day care...I think I got it down, thanks....

We have an assigned person. She is the one who we call with questions, comments or problems. They change them around every few years. My current one is a very nice lady.

        KS Regulations

KS went up in fees in 2011. We pay $85 each year. My county also charges me $65 a year for my inspection. My license expires each year, so I have to renew yearly.

We are inspected once a year. It is an unannounced visit unless we just got licensed or have moved and then they schedule it.

We just had some new regulations passed. We now have to have a specific, written plan of how we will supervise that we have to go over with parents. The rules could be worse: they wanted to make us wake infants every 15minutes. They didn't get that one passed.

I have the same surveyor that I've had from the county office. I've developed a relationship with her in the 3 years I've had inspections. She answers any question I email her.

I pay nothing for my license and it is good for two years.

How often are you inspected? Announced or unannounced?

We are inspected ever two years during license renewal time and can have unannounced visits at any time.

What are some license rules you do not agree with?

I have no issues with any of our licensing rules and feel as though my state is very lax.

I would actually like to see some changes in our current licensing policies as well as the regulations providers have.

Do you know your licensor personally or is it just a random person from the county or state?

Yes, I know my licensor personally. I am on my third licensor. My first knew me because she licensed my own parents for foster care when I was young.

I went to school with my second licensor (her DH was also a former co-worker of my DH's).

My current licensor is also someone I know from when I worked in Head Start and she worked in another department of our county Health and Human sevices.

Pretty much the same as yours. $150 every 2 years. They let you know the month they are coming, but not the day/time. I am on my 2nd licensor. We have 2 and they seem overworked. She does get back to me fairly quickly with emails tho. I know her from her last visit and seeing her at trainings here and there, but we probably couldn't pick each other out in a crowd.

It's free now for two years but I think that is supposed to change next year. It will be 180 for two years.

I'm actually looking forward to their being a hefty fee and a requirement to register. It will be a small price to pay to disuade people from starting up illegally with zero start up costs and super low rates.

Around $150 in total.... I pay about $40 for the license renewal itself, I think? Plus $10 for each my husband & me to have background checks done. Also have to take 8 hours of classes - four classes that are each 2 hours long - and they cost about $15 each, so that's another $60. (They are through the county ESD, not the same state agency that the license lady works for) Plus a 5-hour Infant & Child First Aid & CPR, which costs me another $25 or so? Oh, and a Foodhandler's card test online, which costs $10 I think. I can't remember the amounts because it's been almost 2 years. Which brings me to the next answer...

Inspection and license renewal every 2 years. They send me a packet 3 months ahead of time that tells what to expect, and has a checklist of what the inspector will use when she comes here. Basically, you can't fail if you take the time to read through the checklist.

About 6 weeks before your renewal date, she calls and makes an appointment to come over. So - announced.

She is a state employee, and she has been the same person since my state started requiring licensing, which is about 10 years now.

Disagree with --- For me, it would be trivial things, like not having your good knives in a wooden block thing on the counter. I guess I don't disagree with it per se, it's just a nuisance. Yes, I see the danger, but jeez. I don't allow kids in the kitchen, and they certainly would not climb on the counter! She also gets picky about "dangerous liquids". She goes in my medicine cabinet and takes out nail polish, wart remover, and even my husband's shaving cream. Again - safety, but I do roll my eyes. Where the heck else do I keep these things??

I think you and I have the same inspector as we live in the same area. The funny thing is she talked to me about the exact same things!!!!! She didn't go into our bathroom though because the childcare has its own bathroom so nothing to see in there that would be unsafe.
