How Many Days Until...

I have a DCK here who has had a cough and runny nose for almost 2 straight weeks. It does not seem to be clearing up on it's own. NOW, I have another child who is also starting to display the same symptoms.

How long do you allow a child to come to care with the same symptoms before you ask the parents to take them to the doctors?

Fever? Rash? Lethargy?

green thick nasal discharge, grumpy but not enough to exclude, horrible sounding cough, tired....

i would tell them that if it is still this bad on Monday they need him to be seen.

I was just thinking this to myself yesterday- "when will I have a day of snot free noses and no coughing"

I have had one little guy with runny nose/cough since christmas!!! His nose is about to drive me crazy! But it is clear, he has been on an antibiotic in that time frame, they give him meds to try to help but it doesn't make a difference. It's clear snot so nothing I can exclude him for- it's just terrible annoying and gross!

I guess my concern is how long should you allow for the body to try to fight off whatever infection/virus before you realize that the body cant fight it on its own and will need the aide of medication???

I feel really bad for this kid....He looks miserable even though he can play ok
