    Summer Rates

Getting calls for summer care already, but have some parents thinking $80 per week is too much for school aged kids????? Really, I welcome your kids in at 630am while everyone else in my home is sleeping in, and have most of them until 430-5pm 5 days a week, and I feed them all meals out of this $80 dollars!
Curious as to what everyone else charges, my current families pay $100 per week for summer care(which none have ever complained about considering how much I care for them each week)

This is the second summer that I am not taking SA siblings but when I did take them, I did so for $100 FLAT RATE.

SA are a lot of work and I didn't want to deal with play dates, last minute cancellations, summer activity practices and unexpected Grandma's or relatives showing up and effecting my income so I simply said it they wanted the space it was a flat rate of $100

That is 75% of my regular weekly max. rate.

Oh heck no! I don't do SA care, but that might change as my kids become SA themselves. I would actually charge the same amount as toddler/preschool care bc SA kids do not nap, eat more, and are more of a liability (IMO). So my summer SA rate would be my regular FT rate and I would probably add a few bucks to cover extra food!

I don't do summer care for SA unless they have a sibling here and my current families know that they pay whatever my regular rates are ($160 flat weekly rate for 50 hours, $108 flat weekly rate for up to 29 hours) which is higher than your rate and they don't have a problem paying it, so sorry can't help you there.

Can you approach it a different way? Instead of telling them it's $80 a week can you start by saying that you charge $1.60 an hour, all meals and activity supplies included with a minimum of 50 hours a week. Sometimes when you start off by saying the hourly rate they realize what a low hourly amount childcare is.

I charged $130 per week for full time School agers. Never had an issue with parents complaining. This summer no School Agers!! There are so many daycamps available in my area, I can't compete. Nor do I want to. I am just not into trying to entertain SchoolAgers during the summer with a bunch of toddlers!

I charge my normal weekly rate. They're here full day, why wouldn't they pay full rate?

Yep, full rate, or give a discount but require parents to provide all food. SA's are MORE trouble, so you shouldn't have to make due with LESS money.

I agree! SA is more trouble, and they definitely eat more. I'd at least charge my normal FT rate.

I couldn't agree with you more. I would charge a regular FT rate and I would add a few $ to cover their extra needs.

I charge my regular rate. They're not in school so they no longer qualify for my schoolage rate which takes into account that they're in school all day!!

I do not take school agers any longer- ughh!!
It was the same price, as my other daycare children.

I watched a SA whose younger sibling came to me mostly FT during the school year. In the summer they came 3 days/week & I charged $25/day for the SA. I did provide all food. There is no way I would watch a SA for $80/week FT! Maybe if the parents provided all food & snacks but still that's very low.

I charge my full rate for SA too. They're MORE work than the little ones between the complaining and the noise.

I do a rate scale similar to nan's but for my summer SAs its 100.00 a week flat. This child's departure rate would put him at the lowest weekly rate. Considering he is a good 4 years older than my other DCKs, he is alot more work to keep entertained, and eats ALOT more food. I won't take any less than 100 to watch him.

Last summer was the last time I did SA summer care and I charged full rate. They are way more work and eat more. Not that that is their fault at all
