I think most if the time I wish parents had the common sense I take for granted! I would have kept my baby home to take care of myself. No question.

She got to my house in tears saying that I upset her by saying that!! What was wrong with what I said?!?! She also informs me that she opted out of any antibiotics or pain meds for dcg because she feels they are "over prescribed". So dcg is still in pain and not feeling good.
There is a looooong story behind this woman and I have bent over backwards to accommodate the high maintenance needs of her and her family (my fault I know), is there anyone out there that would have done differently and either just watched the fussy sick baby, or told her to go home and take care of her sick baby.
Mom reacted that way B/C the doctor just gave her an earfull about how DCG needs the meds and is likely in pain ect. ect. ect.
The doctor has a resposibility to make sure the parent knows all the risk of not giving the child the meds.- Flag

No kidding! Why wouldn't you want to stay home with your baby who has double ear infections? Poor little thing!- Flag

My son had an ear infection that actually ruptured the ear drum AFTTER taking him to the doctor. The doctor had said it was pretty red but we were all suprised when it ruptured and he was on antibiotics.
My son was also 6or 7 and could tell us his ear hurt-can you imagine a baby not being able to do anything but cry-
Feel free to let the parent know that the ear drum can rupture from ear infections! Each day is a fresh start
Never look back on regrets
Live life to the fullest
We only get one shot at this!!

Fever for me is a big thing...I don't care if it's low grade...at 99 degrees there's a call to inform and if it gets to 100.5 they have to pick up and keep child home til after 24hrs. I always get a call saying the same thing that child is filling much better and can they come and I say no. They are not past the 24hr stage. I don't do it to be mean...bc let me tell you..I can't afford for child to be out sick. I don't make money that way. But when a baby or child is sick they need to be home with their parents. I can't take care of a sick child and the other well children together. The sick children always need quiet a bit more care and you can't resist giving it to them. I will however deal with a child who doesn't have a temp but not feeling well. The coughing sneezing...sniffy child. Most times they are feeling pretty good but I am running around wiping noses.- Flag

So... Baby IS sick - verified by her doctor and NEEDS antibiotics to clear up the infection. Does she want a hearing impaired child/adult on her hands because she passed on the meds? Crazy.- Flag

One uses a chiroractor only and seems to have pretty good luck as her kids seem to recover very well and pretty quickly too whenever they have an ear infection and the other mom is very homopathic (? not sure if that is the word) and uses garlic oil drops for ear infections. Her child is 5 now and has never had any hearing issues or lasting issues from ear infections and I know for a fact he has had a few in the last 3 or 4 years.
If I remember correctly, most ear infections are the result of viruses and will clear on their own–no antibiotics needed! Sometimes viral infections progress into bacterial infections and then antibiotics may be necessary but this is the exception rather than the rule. (I'll try and find where I read that so I can back it up.)Last edited by Blackcat31; 02-29-2012, 03:11 PM.- Flag

I can only imagine the pain this baby is in.
My 35 yo dd just is going through this herself. It started out with an outer ear infection in both ears, turned into an inner ear infection with a ruptured eardrum. She was in so much pain, had trouble with her equilibrium and getting dizzy. She started out with Keflex and Cipro eye drops (she's allergic to prednisone so they give her eye drops for ear infections instead of ear drops). She's now on Cipro antibotics.- Flag
