    Playroom Set-ups

I have been changing things around like a mad woman. ! I would like to see how others set up their play areas. I'm curious how other home childcares arrange their toys and the larger play items such as babies, play kitchen, tool benches, etc... I would love if anyone would share pictures or links for picture

Here are a couple pictures of my playroom, though I have just decided that I need to do some rearranging, too. I haven't decided what the best new layout would be yet, though, so I am interested to see some other photos, too! I really like the storage bins as toyboxes because it makes it really easy for the kids to clean up. Outside of our playroom, the rest of my house is very open (kitchen, living room) so usually we have as many toys out there by the middle of the day as we have left in the toy room.

I love the colours in your room! Love the circles for displaying artwork too!

I notice you all have a LOT of books available easily. I am a little quirky about books-HATE to see them on the floor. Do you have toddlers? I have 3 right now, and we are seriously working on "books go back into the book rack when you are done with them"....

I have 2 infants, 2 toddlers, and 2 preschoolers (plus the SA)

Exposure to books and reading is RIGHT up there with art for me.

I keep books in every "area". I start early on teaching them how to treat them and care for them. We even have a book hospital for when something happens, but 9 times out of 10, its an accident or natural wear and tear.

Melskids - I love the mirror at baby level! And your water wall outside -- that is on my to do list for this summer!

And, yes, the kids pull the books off of the shelves here, too, but having a big variety of books available to them is worth it to me. We talk a lot here about how to treat books nicely, too and when the WHOLE shelf gets emptied by one of the younger ones (which happens occasionally), there is usually a 4 or 5 y/o ready to sit and stack them up nicely again at clean-up time.
I hope to someday get my talented husband to build me a new bookshelf -- the kind that is tiered, where all the books face outward. I think it would be much easier for the younger ones to put them back by themselves that way.

I have good variety of books but all cloth or board books. The paper books are upstairs in my daughter's room.

Mel, I noticed all your storage is open. How big of an issue is clean up time for you? It seems like every toy you have is out for use. I like that idea but the reality is that I have some kids at the "dumping" stage where every single container in the room would be spilled out and stepped on before they move to the next toy. I think I might have a younger group than you though......5 that are 2 or younger.

I was going to write the same thing. Very nice, pleasant layout.

Lots of great wood structures and flooring. Very earthy.

Thanks! I'm really trying to get away from plastic.

And cheerfuldom, I just HAD to chuckle when you said it looks like all my toys are out. You don't know the half of it. I could open my own toy store.

Right now, I have two 1 yr olds, 2 just 2, and two 3 year olds...and some SAgers.

I spend ALOT of time modeling how to use the materials and cleanup. In all the years of doing daycare, I've only had one or two relentless dumpers, and when that happens, everything gets overhauled, put away for a bit, and re-introduced a little at a time.

The babies can sit on the floor right by my art shelves and not even touch a thing. The only area they really tear apart is the kitchen stuff.

And of course, these pictures are from right after I've cleaned up. I could show you some pretty scary ones too.

Crazy 8 - I love your playroom! Looks like a great space, I like how you have it divided up. Looks like it has a good "flow." My playroom is way smaller than yours! But we do use the rest of the main floor of my house, too.
