Ugh! Somedays I Wish I Could Exclude For Clear Runny Nose!!

New(ish) dcg had a yucky runny nose when she first started at the beginning of the month, it cleared up pretty quickly. I went in vacation for 2 weeks and she went elsewhere for childcare during that time and is back today for the first time with a runny nose again. It is so gross (one of the things that makes me cringe, haha) and she blows it all over the place and wipes it on everything. I have done nothing but wipe it all day!! And then ti top it off she has been drooling all day (could be teeth) so she is spitting that everywhere too!! Bleh. Just two of my biggest pet peeves. Snot and spit.

How old is she? I watch a dcb who is 1.5 yo. He's the same way. Snot everywhere, drool constantly. Puts EVERYTHING in his mouth even stuffed animals. I can't stand it!! I know exactly how you feel!

My regs say that a persistent runny nose is grounds for exclusion. I don't care the color or consistency. If I have to run all over creation wiping, they are wiping it all over themselves and toys, they need to go home.

I know I wouldn't feel well if my nose was running that bad, I'm sure they don't either.

My policy says "Exclusion for any behaviors or symptoms that require more care and/or attention than I can provide" which would cover a really persistent runny nose, no matter what color it is.

            HAHA! Uh...no!

I would text DCM or DCD tonight and tell him that their payment covers until pickup at 230pm. You do not provide additional care without a 2 week notice, therefore tomorrows alternative pick up of 4pm is not authorized.

DO NOT let them walk on you. TELL them tonight that you are not, can not and will not provide care until 4pm tomorrow. END OF STORY!

If they want additional hours, tell them it needs to be approved ahead of time...not a day ahead either.

I dont know why I am so afraid to stand up for myself all the time. I make myself sick if I dont and if I do! They actually havent even paid for this week yet because payment is due Fridays so its a weird week since I have been on vacation.

ditto my policy states the something similar

Children suffering from a common cold will be assessed on an individual basis. Factors of consideration include the developmental level of your child in congruence with my ability to limit the spread of germs.
The younger your child, the more difficult it is to keep the spread of germs down. For example: hand to face contact, mouthing of toys, uncontrolled nasal discharge, uncovered sneezing and coughing etc.

We usually have 16 children here per day and we see so much snot, drool, spit up, and poop, that I am almost immune to it's grossness at this point. ::

I have one DCB who seems to have a clear runny nose, VERY runny nose, every month! I actually changed my contract in January to include a rule against this...I had enough of the cleaning!!

                          Mine says this:

"There are times when a child may be excluded due to the required amount of care he/she needs when experiencing a common cold or illness. For example, a cough that is disruptive to normal daily activities, when a child is unable to cover his/her mouth while coughing or when the amount of nasal discharge or fluid becomes unmanageable for the provider to continue maintaining a sanitary environment. This will occur at my discretion and will be handled on an individual basis."

                          Hope that helps
