    Stressful Interview

    Oh my gosh!
I just had the most stressful interview ever!
It was like being put on the witness stand and a D.A asking me question after question and then the same question again in a different way!

this is just a small example of my one hour interview

Parent: how many kids do you have?
Me: 8 but I have some part time families and a mom on maternity leave

Parent: so, how many legally are you allowed to have?
Me: 14 but I am only going to take 12

Parent: (a few minutes later) so how many kids are you going to have Monday?
Me: 10 ( my partimes will be there)
Parent: I thought you said you only had 8!
Me: umm , I need to get going, I have to pick up my daughter now.
She actually wanted to sign up at the end and I told her another family is coming tomorrow for the same spot... hmmm I wonder who will get it?

One hour of my precious Saturday gone! I wish this one was a no show!

I hate when they ask that question, I don't know how to respond. I think there was a thread about it. But the question is, "what did your gut say"

I hate those kinds of interviews!

I never take the ones who act that way.

They are the kind who feel they are interviewing you for a job. And they will be the first ones to EXPECT you to stay open late etc...because they see themselves as your boss. They'll have a hissy fit the first time you put your foot down over policy.

My gut said, " get out of my house!" ::::
It's so sad because the kid was awesome! I just can't handle being grilled like that! I understand wanting the best for your child but I would never put someone through this. I sent out very strong signals that I was getting tired of it. If she wanted me so bad then she should have lightened up.
My licensing record, good reputation and clean safe house is all most parents care about. I have had parents in here for just 3 minutes begging for the paperwork to fill out. I guess i was just not ready for this. My face hurt after she left.
You guys are right, I won't be accepting this family. I have a lot of families interested in this spot.
        Thanks for the input!

I had an interview very similar to that. Except the one i interviewed was a sheriff. Besides being grilled he wanted to know what were in my closets etc. The way he kept looking around made me very uncomforable, I did tell him what was in my closets even though I shouldnt have, I even opened them and showed him but all threw my interview i was thinking what did i do wrong??? Why am I being interrogated??

He waaaay over stepped his boundaries on that one.

Potential parents are not in your home to search it!

If he had asked me what was in my closets, I would have shown him our craft closet and told him all other closets were off limits to the children AND THEIR PARENTS!

I would have but i think i was so concerned with the fact that he was a sheriff i felt like if i said no he would turn to my licensor and say something.

What could he say? "The provider wouldn't let me nose through her personal closet" ?!

He was abusing his title of sheriff.

The law here states that parents are to have access to see where their children will be during the day. Unless you have stated that children will be kept in your closet....he has no right to see it...or to even step foot in your bedroom.

Now LICENSING here take a quick peek into our bedrooms to make sure we don't have children hidden there but parents are allowed only in day care areas and only if invited and accompanied.

I seriously thought she was a cop afterwards!
I asked her what she did for a living just to stop the insulting questions, and she looked down a said, "I'm a executive at a major marketing company."
She didn't look me in the eye when she said that.
I have no problem with a cop as a parent but this woman was a PITA!
I emailed her and told her that if I felt that her family would be a good fit that I would call her this Friday. :::: (don't wait by the phone).
Oh, and this mom was probably 5 minutes away from looking in my closets, but I got her out of here!
