Proof You Can Go Out In Any Weather

It was pouring rain yesterday but just above zero. So we put on full snowsuits and my lovely blue ewok ponchos right over top. There is nothing like walking down the sidewalk in the rain with a bunch of giggling ewoks.

I just wanted to share because with the weather in my area sometimes I need to get creative to make outside work. I know alot of you struggle with this as well. These are adult ponchos that I have trimmed for size so they don't drag on the ground but they are long enough to cover the boots.

Nice! I keep a supply of extra splash pants and long rain coats on hand here for days like those. My parents are great about remembering the snow gear (we ARE in Canada, after all ), but the rain gear, not so much. Some days you just HAVE to get out!

Zero in Canada....just above freezing. They're wearing full snowsuits, boots, mitts, hats and scarves UNDER the ponchos. That's a large part of my problem here on the east coast. It often hovers around the freezing mark which isn't that cold for us but it also rains frequently. The ponchos allow us to get out and walk anyway because they're warm and dry underneath. The babies ride in a double stroller with a rain cover.

THAT makes much more sense!!! Lol. I kept thinking, it looks awful warm for zero. You are having the same weather we are. Rain and 34 degrees f. Lol.

You lost me at zero.... I don't go out below about 30-40 degrees - kids may not mind but I FREEZE!!! and I'm not sure my parents would even appreciate me taking the kids out in the rain. Fortunately we have had a mild winter, but I never have an issue keeping the kids busy indoors either.

ETA: Ok, I think you are talking celsius then?? So your zero is our 32... that is about my breaking point - I much prefer the 40-50 degree winter days, LOL!!

I do NOT allow scarves at all. I also live in a frigidly cold climate but still do not allow scarves.....too much of a safety risk.

A few years before I opened my daycare, a little girl on the school playground choked because her scarf got caught on a swing. She didn't die, but had some really bad injuries to her neck.

Most of our elementary schools have adopted a NO SCARVES rule. Face masks are recommended instead.

@Crazy8......here if we stayed in because it was 30F degrees or below, we would be inside from October until May! LOL!!

I don't allow scarves either! LOL about the weather, so funny what we get used to. With this winter being so mild my kids got so mad when I made them wear winter coats when we had a 2-3 day cold spell (in the teens/20's). In one year they completely forgot that they sometimes need to bundle up like that and they hated it!!!

Same with my crew...30' is downright balmy!!! We go out gladly at that temp. And I also don't allow scarves. Nothing wrong with playing in rain! I think it's certain more beneficial to play outside and get fresh air when possible then to stay inside (for the kids and MY sanity).

Do you take babies out as well? My youngest is 9 months and we don't go out if it is in the 30s or below because she is downright miserable at that point.

We have a hard time going outside too. I only have younger toddlers, so by the time they are all bundled up, they can hardly move! I can't wait for warmer weather so we can spend most of the day outside!

Yep, in the double stroller bundled up under a wind or rain shield in bad weather or in the wagon in good weather. They don't mind at all although they still hate the snowsuiting process. I have a 10 month old and 12 month old right now.

                            To answer some other questions:

I'm talking about ZERO CELCIUS which is about 32 F. We do not go out to play if it's colder than -15 CELCIUS. We walk daily to meet my dd regardless of weather so there is 15 minutes of outside time even in the worst weather.

Scarves: I say scarves but I actually use a piece of fleece with a velcro attachment in back so they come off easily. No long winding scarves here other than mine.

I also don't see a problem with rain. One of my favorite things to do as a kid was to walk and play in the rain. My mom put us in full rainsuits and let us go. My kids are pretty much the same. We go daily regardless of weather even if it's just for a 15 minute walk. The only role the weather plays is how we dress and how long we stay out. Wet kids dry.

This is what I use for scarves except that I made all mine for the kids. They come off and on easily but also offer great wind protection.
