    Chasing After Money?

I had a client who was struggling each week to pay on time and I did my best to work with them but it was becoming obvious over the last few months that it wasn't getting better. She is a student and had lost her scholorship, was borrowing to pay for school, etc, Then last week, a question about subsidy came up (supposedly for a friend of a friend ), which I do not take nor ever intend to, and that kind of let me know where things were headed.

Sure enough, I got notice today.

I won't be seeing the dck again, dcm cleaned out their cubbies and said she would pay my required notice fees as soon as possible but I seriously doubt she will. A couple of weeks ago she told me they were thinking of filing bankruptcy, blah blah blah.

My question is, should I bother chasing this money or just let it go knowing they would probably claim it in their bankruptcy anyway?

Financially, I am in a great position and don't need her money but the principal of it bothers me.

    WWYD?

you could at least begin the process by typing a letter that itemizes her fees and send it certified with delivery confirmation. Sometimes just an "official" looking letter is enough to at least get something going on their end. Sorry this is happening to you.

That's a good idea. She is the second one I've had that I knew couldn't really afford me and struggled to pay each week. So I kinda brought it on myself by letting it go on so long. Why I didn't learn the first time, I have no idea.

Meh. I think I am sometimes too nice for this job.

I would probably just let it go unless I really needed the money. It sounds like the family is really having a hard time financially.

Yes, well... this is also the same family who always seems to have new gadgets, brags about all the expensive stuff they bought the kids for Xmas (then turns around and applies for foodstamps in January and is po'd that they got denied! ), dcm would leave kids here to go tanning, etc.

Basically another one of those young couples that acts entitled to have everything dh and I work sooo hard to have but wants it handed to them. Ugh.

That's actually what I meant by the principal of it bothers me, I should have expounded on that part.

If it's not too expensive, chase the money.

Whenever I enroll a new family I always check their names on our local court case website. If they've been sued by other daycare providers, I don't even interview them.

Send them a letter, and if you don't get anything back, file against them in small claims court. It will let anyone else thinking of taking their kiddo know that they are flaky when it comes to picking up the bill.
