    Website Home Page Rewording-

Below is my first stab at my daycare home page- I have concerns about certain sections already but am having a tough time with wording- any feed back would be appreciated.

G****** daycare will be your child’s home away from home. Our goal is to make your child as comfortable here, as s/he is in their own home. That is why you will see that our day care is not “instutionalized”. We have all the ammenities of a traditional daycare weaved into our everyday environment- with the exception of the “ traditional playroom” (as you see below).

We use every day experiences as an opportuinty to learn. For example: Sitting at the table talking and coloring... What are they learning you ask?? ...Friendship, communication/language skills, problem solving (at least 2 people will want red at the same time) and fine motor skills. .....and they think they were just talking and coloring

God is a very important part of our life- we say grace before meals, read bible themed books amongst others and celebrate christian holidays.

I'll take a try at it:

G****** daycare will be your child’s home away from home. Our goal is to make your child as comfortable in G***** as they would in their own home. Our daycare does not have an “institutionalized” feel. We have all the ammenities of a traditional daycare weaved into an everyday environment with the exception of the “traditional playroom” (as you see from the photo below).

We use every day experiences as an opportunity to learn further skill sets. For example: While they may be sitting at the table talking and coloring, they will also be learning friendship skills, communication and language skills, problem solving and fine motor skills.

God is a very important part of our life- we say grace before meals, read bible themed books among others and celebrate Christian holidays.

Just wanted to take a shot at that last part. Parents who have not been religious have taken this well when worded THIS way.

Here at G**** daycare we have a christian philosophy: Love of God, Love of country, and Love of family. Our stories, crafts & activities, as well as any music and videos played, may have a Christian theme.

this is JUST my opinion, but i would leave out the religious part all together.

i would have no problems with my child being cared for by a christian, but i do not go to church, and when i see businesses that advertise anything having to do with religion - it automatically turns me off. not that i'm turned off that the business has religious principles, but that they may not accept me because of that.

a lot of people use that as a marketing strategy (and it works), but you have to remember there are a lot of people who either aren't christian or aren't religious at all - and you could repel potential clients.

for example, my daughter was in gymnastics and i was considering switching her to the only other gym in town. when i went to visit, they had much nicer equipment, but there were biblical phrases all over the place. that made me uncomfortable. i'm probably in the minority, so it's a matter of opinion. i just know that i was one customer they lost from the blatant advertising of religion.

I don't think this is a "marketing strategy." She absolutely needs to include this in her advertising if this is how she runs her daycare. Do you suggest that she just not tell the parents that she reads them the Bible and prays with them? Of course parents need to know this up front. This will weed out anyone who would be "turned off" by a Christian family daycare setting and save her some time in interviewing them.

i didn't say she shouldn't tell them. i said it is MY opinion that it's not that big of a deal to advertise it.

saying grace before meals and reading bible themed books is not really the same as reading the bible and praying with them.

that's a good suggestion. i said leave it out - she said reword it. whatever, i'm sure god will work it out.

I agree with telling people upfront that you are Christian based if you are. I have that on my website because I have run into a couple of families who do not want their child around Christian themes. We celebrate Christmas and Easter, we say a "God bless" prayer before lunch, and we listen to some Christian music.

If the parent doesn't want that then they need to go somewhere else. To me.. this is my home and this is what we do in my home.

Reading the Bible was an assumption on my part, but saying grace is a meal time prayer.

I really do think it is a good idea to have it on the website how ever it ends up being worded though. The reason I have it on my website is that those in search of a secular daycare or a daycare family practicing a different religion will see it and can save time and energy on their part and mine by not calling asking a zillion other questions first and even interviewing before it comes up that it's a dealbreaker for them. It's the same reason I put the number of kids I keep at a time, and my rates, and pics of my setup on the site. It's a time saver.
