Difference Between Diaper Rash And Yeast Infection?

I have a part time dcg who comes only Thurs/Fri. DCD brought her this morning and said she has a nasty diaper rash that won't go away, but he did not say how long she had had it for.

I am wondering if it's a yeast infection. None of my children have ever had one so I am not sure.

It's bumpy and red and literally all over her diaper area and it doesn't seem to bother her when I put Desitin on it.

How do I tell if it's a diaper rash or yeast infection?

If she has been on antibiotics, it could likely be a yeast infection. Also, realize that a "diaper rash yeast infection" is different than what a grown woman gets on the inside.

Diaper rash should go away within 2 or 3 days with consistent treatment. A yeast infection won't. If it isn't responding to the treatment, it could be a yeast infection. Found the following online:

    Signs of a Yeast Infection

There are several telling signs that your baby might have a yeast infection rather than a rash. You may see the following symptoms:

The bold red rash will be contained with a slightly raised border.
"Satellite lesions" may appear. These are smaller spots of inflamed areas separated from the main rash.
    The skin may become scaly.
The rash is still hanging around after two days of diaper rash treatments.
Frequently the infection is found in the skin folds of the groin area.

    Also this one:

The signs and symptoms of a yeast diaper rash can include:

Raised, red bumps that look like a case of the chickenpox or poison ivy
Little blister-like bumps typically found in sprawling clusters on the skin covered by a diaper
The rash may also be found in the skin folds between the thighs and body or the genitals and thighs
Due to the discomfort of the rash, your baby may become irritable and cry more often than usual.

Children with a yeast diaper rash may also have a history of diarrhea, recent use of antibiotics, or oral thrush.

I have a baby here that has a diaper rash/yeast infection. We are treating it with a layer of Lotrimin (for yeast) and a bit of Desitin on the top for comfort. It is clearing up now that we are using the Lotrimin.

I have used lotrimin on dcks who have had yeast infections before and it works wonders. Be advised that it irritates the skin if there is no infection though so best be sure before putting it on.

Yes, I informed DCM that I think it may be a yeast infection and they brought her to the doctor. It was a yeast infection and she was given a prescription cream that she needs to use for two weeks.

A yeast infection rash generally appears in the folds of a baby's skin. It will be bumpy and red, and the bumps may contain pus. Regular diaper rash is more mild looking and does not have bumps.
