Dressed and Ready for the Day

This is something I have never required of my early arrivals. It started with just bringing an outfit for the day and before I knew it 1 of my parents was bringing brushes, hair ties, tooth brushes and toothpaste. Although the children are old enough to complete all these tasks themselves with little to no help I think if these things were done at home we could get the day a rollin' alot sooner and it would save me at least 30 mins a day.

So for those of you that require that how is your policy worded in your handbook?

"All children must arrived dressed for the day with a clean diaper (if applicable). The children must eat before they arrive and babies must have had their first feeding of the day. "

On a normal day, none of mine arrive dressed. If they are on a late schedule, they bring them dressed. Of course, I never have more than 3 here, so it isn't a big deal. When everyone is here, we have breakfast. After that, everyone gets a fresh diaper, clothes and pretty hair-or the best I can do anyway. I've never required a fresh diaper on arrival because I've never had to--mine have always arrived in a clean one. Well, there might have been a rare occasion when they wet their diaper on the way, but not often, and no big deal. All of mine are 17/18 months old.

I'm of the opinion that getting ready for the day with mom or dad is the best way to start the day. I get my own children up to get them ready for the day before my first DCK arrives (7am) because I do feel this is quality time and good routine to get ready before leaving the house. I can get my own 4 ready, so I don't feel guilt about asking my DCPs to get their 1 child ready.

My policy says, "Please bring your child clean, dressed appropriately for the weather, and fed their breakfast. In the spring/summer/fall please apply sunscreen before arrival." It's no big deal and none of my parents have questioned me.

I would just put a simple sentence into a contract amendment, have them sign it, and explain that your daily routine is changing in such a way that you are no longer able to feed, groom and dress children before daycare. Explain it in a way that they think they are getting something out of the deal instead of losing something. "With this extra time we will be able to go to drop-in group twice a week and get to the library for Toddler Time!" or some other spin on your regular routine.

I LOVE THIS IDEA! My 4 year old might not since currently since she sleeps from 8:30pm-8:30am

Currently the two I have arrive at 6:15 and stay until 6pm. It's a real long day for them and I know they don't get enough time from their parents. They are constantly seeking out attention. Luckily they are good and don't use bad behavior to get it

The oldest sleeps until 7 then gets ready for school. The youngest sleeps until 8 eats breakfast and gets ready for the day after that. Then my oldest sleeps until 8:30 and gets dressed and ready. It kills so much of my morning and I feel like it is 9am before we even start the day.

So maybe if they arrive dressed they can take their naps and in the meantime I can get my two up dressed and ready and by 8 we will all be ready to start the day!
