    Just Found Ya'll!

    Hello!
Just found this forum but wish I would have found it much sooner!

In reading the boards I see a lot of people having the same troubles I have had in the past four years.

As each year as passed, I add to my rules and policies and change what needs to be changed. What does not change is the lack of respect my home and myself are shown.

This is my last year. I have had all I can take and I'm throwing in the towel.

My policies and rules are closely modeled after those used by centers in the area and those of other in home providers so I'm not asking the unthinkable or being unreasonable in my expectations. My question to you all, especially those who have been in the business longer than I have is this: Are the problems we encounter more because we are in home care and people don't see it as "real daycare" or because society as a whole is so self centered and self serving?

I am a mother to two small boys. My oldest attends MMO two days a week. I can not imagine treating his school or teachers in the way parents seem to have no problem treating me.

Yep, welcome!! I've always said that it was more work taking care of the parents than it was taking care of the children . But I still love the kids and I love doing daycare. Maybe what you need is to weed out all of your current families one by one and replace them with new ones.

I did this thanks to the help of the ladies here on the forum (they helped me strengthen my backbone). I would find a replacement for my least favorite family and gave them notice. That family's last day would be a Friday and my new family would start on the following Monday. I immediately saw improvements with most of my other families. I would give it a few more weeks and if there was a family that was still stressing me out and not following the rules I replaced them too. I let go of 3 out of my 6 families and found replacements, the remaining families that I did keep followed and still follow my rules to a T.

I was so tired of the families that I had making it nearly impossible for me to enjoy myself at what I loved doing that I had no shame telling my prospective clients that the reason why they couldn't start sooner was because I had to give another family that I was terminating their 2 week notice. I said it in a very nice way but even the new family got the picture that you don't sign up in my DC and not follow the rules . So maybe all you need is new families that respect you, your business and your proffesion. Good luck to you!

No offense to the center people here intended, you get your share of crappola, too, just a little differently..

Welcome!!!! I just found this forum a couple months ago and wish I'd had it for the last 8 years!!!

I agree that it is all of the above. Society is rude in general so that carries over to home daycare. People who would be rude to a salesclerk, other drivers, waiters, neighbors, etc., would see no problem with being rude to their childcare provider. And there are definitely parents who treat home daycare as "moms who are home anyways". They don't understand that it is a business and that we have rules that need to be followed. Many parents feel their child is the "most important one" in care so the rules don't apply to them.

Now, I am fortunate in that all my families now are absolutely awesome to work with. They treat my home and me with respect. lovethis I have had a couple of the other kind though, so I feel for you. And I have read things on this forum that parents have done to providers and I am just appalled at some of the behavior!

                  Welcome.

I've had some doozies, but I adore my current families. Well, most of them.

I hope a little support will get you through.
