    Ugh. Lice

Just re-read this and realized it was long and rambling. It's a rant, sorry! Thanks for indulging me. I don't usually do this.

I have been in business going on 18 years, and this is just the 2nd case of lice. The first one was at least 10 yrs ago. Fortunately, this is a girl who ONLY comes after school for 45 minutes four days a week, and for various reasons, she hasn't been here since Monday this week. (Yes, I know it could still be transmitted, but the chances are lower.)

So anyway, naturally I do all the stuff I'm supposed to do, as far as my house, etc., and I inform all the parents immediately and told them what they need to do. They took it fine, but my PITA mom called me within 30 seconds of the email going out. I saw her name on caller id and ignored it. (Hey, I was busy with your kids LOL) But.... she calls again 5 min later. Oy. First thing she says is, "So who is it, when did they get it, and how was it found?" Almost in a tone of voice like we had some nice juicy gossip to discuss. It was weird. I just said, "well, I'm not saying for privacy reasons, but they don't come every day." She was like, "Was it Susie? Billy?" I just disregarded the question and repeated some stuff I said in the email about how she should check her kids at home, blah, blah, blah. But jeez, lady!!

And to top it off, she was on her way to have her hair cut!! This was 4:00, and my kids who normally leave at 4:50 and 5:00 had just been picked up early. She says, "well, I just need to have my hair cut real quick and I'll be there." I told her everybody just left, thinking maybe her husband could come because he had today off, but she's too dense to take a hint. Ugh. Oh, and dad also has Monday off, but the kids are coming. This family is a PITA. Love the kids to death, and have had them their whole lives (older one is 8), but the parents are just clueless. They don't do anything blatantly against my rules, they're just clueless. As far as going to get her hair cut, it's not against my rules since they are contracted till 5:30, but this is a thorn in my side because she KNOWS she pays till 5:30, and I'll be darn if they're not here till precisely 5:30 every day. She has come in different clothes than she had in the morning, she has come with pillow face and hair, she has come with grocery bags in the car, she has come with her dogs in the car, etc., etc. She KNOWS I'm done at 5:00 except for her kids!! Have some sympathy for ME once in awhile and pick up the kids a few min early. Even 15 min is a treat for me! But no.

    Oh well, rant done. Thanks.

Well, it's 5:31 here on the west coast, and she just picked up her kids and left. Funny how she can work it out to get here at precisely 5:30 every dang day. Even when she has her hair cut at 4:00

Am I being snarky? LOL Oh well, the weekend is here. Put the work problems aside, right?

Change your hours to be done for 5. Simple fix.

Sounds simple, doesn't it? I wish it were that easy. Yes, she does sometimes get off work early and NOT pick up her kids until exactly 5:30. But her normal hours go until 5:00. So, ok, let's say I change to a 5:00 closing time.... She doesn't get off work till 5:00 95% of the time, and works 20-25 min away. She runs the reception desk, so she can't change her hours. Husband travels almost every week, so he can't pickup/drop off. She would have to find another provider, so I lose 2 kids I've had for 8 yrs and 4 yrs, from whom I receive 1/3 of my income.

In all reality, I truly WISH I could get off at 5:00 every day, but for right now, it just isn't financially practical. In the meantime, I will just rant on here about this mom who would rather have "me" time than come pick up her kids when she happens to get off early for whatever reason.

Oh, and the lice thing which this thread was originally about.... (it's not these 2 kids, by the way. it's another girl) anyway, everybody checked their kids this weekend, and nobody had it. The girl who originally had it won't be back until Friday. That will mean she was not here between Mon the 13th and Fri the 24th. Hopefully that will prevent the spread of the lice.
