The difference is that if you are a member you get the newsletters and updates of important things that are happening such as conferences, trainings, seminars, webinars etc. that you still have to pay additionally to sign up for these.
Accreditation is something that you have to do on your own and very costly (although it's tax deductible). You have to meet certain ECE requirements by taking courses and classes and then you can get an application. You need 90 clock hours of training in ECE. It costs $300 for members and $425 for non-members just for the application process to the self study enrollement not including the cost of the training. The Accreditation Application Fee is $500 for members, $700 for non members. Renewing it is $150 for members and $225 for non-members and you have to renew it yearly. Once you are ready you send in the application and have someone to come and observe you in your DC and review your ECE requirements. I'm not sure whether you pay additionally for the observation visit or whether it's included in the application price.
You don't have to get accredited through NAFCC to be a member just like you don't have to be a member of NAFCC to get accredited.
