    Snot On My New-Er Furniture

So this last month and a half, all of my DCK's have had a cold and have been brought to my house sick disquised with medicine.

Every day I have caught these kids picking their noses and wiping it on my couches. Blech.

And every day I tell them to stop doing that and go get a kleenex and wipe your nose, then clean it off my couch, then go wash your hands.

Everyday they yell at me and say were not, but wont clean it off my furniture, cause its gross. Well you put it there.

I have asked them if they would like it if i came to their house, picked my nose and wiped my snot on thier pillow. Of cousre they say no, and i tell them, dont do it anymore.

I have plenty of kleenex available for them to get with out asking.

So today as I was sitting there I realized just how much has been wiped on my couches. So I cleaned them with my lil green machine, and put some old sheets on them.

So my question is, how do i keep these little terds off my couches, and if they start saying to the parents that I wont let them sit on them any longer, what do I say to the parents?

Im so grossed out i want to barf.

I purchase the flannel sheet sets and use them year-round on my couch and recliner. The flat sheet covers the couch well and the fitted sheet is perfect for the recliner. You could purchase slipcovers specifically made for your furniture, but I find the flannel sheets are much cheaper and work great for me. There is no way I would be able to keep the kids off the couch at my house!

I have used old sheets and blankets to cover my couches at times when the runny noses are just flowing. There is no way to keep the kids off the couches. And they use their FACES to climb up on them so there is snot on them all the time. They are 2 years old and under so they are way too short to do anything but climb up.

Now those couches are my older ones that I have in part of my great room where they are allowed to play. I have a newer, very expensive couch in my family room. It needs to last the rest of my life. :: The kids are absolutely not allowed on that couch....ever. I have actually trained them NOT to go into my family room area. My husband is amazed at out the kids will stop at the edge of the carpet and look at me...!!! happyface I feel they have plenty of space between my kitchen, front room and basement. The do not need the run of my entire house. I have a friend who also does childcare in her home who lets the kids have the run of her entire first floor and basement and I have seen the way they treat her "good" couch...jumping, walking on it, wiping stuff on it, etc. It was great incentive for me to stick with my rules.

I don't know if the parents would have a problem with them not being allowed in that room or on that furniture, but I really don't care. I feel I have a right to have SOMETHING nice.

I do not allow my day children on my couches. I have a large area and an open concept so I am able to turn my couches so the backs of them are facing where the children play. I also use my couches as dividers. When I change things around I have gates set up so they are unable to get near my couches. The older children 2.5 and older know not to get up on the couches they know they are not allowed and they do not do it. The under twos were constantly getting boogers and drool on them before I started doing this. I do not care what the parents think, this is my home and unless they want a rate increase which I will call a snot fee of $10 per day so I can get them cleaned weekly, this is the way it is.

That's one of the many reasons I have leather furniture, so much easier to clean .

I wouldn't hesitate to tell them they are no longer allowed on any of the furniture. If they want to argue the point just make it clear - they lost the benefit of sitting on the adult furniture because they are not using it appropriately. If their parents ask, tell them the same thing. If they are old enough to be able to get a kleenex and wipe their noses on their own they are old enough to understand this concept.

Younger kids are a different situation though (if they're not old enough to understand, I mean).

I don't allow them on my furniture for this reason.

I don't allow them on the furniture. There is plenty of floor space and floor pillows. I also keep a sheet on the seats of all my furniture.

You do not allow the children on your furniture? Are they dogs? Perhaps you should not be taking care of children when you refer to them as "terds". That is disgusting.

I don't allow preschool and toddlers on my furniture anymore because of booger wiping and vomit. I have bought them their own little sofas and they also have tables and chairs so that's plenty. Plus the floor space where they usually want to be anyway. Story time I get on the floor in the cozy corner so we can all gather together close.

If I catch a SA (who are too big for preschool sofas) wiping a booger they will not be permitted on them either.

I don't allow them on my furniture either. However, you just can't always catch them wiping their noses on the furniture. I just clean it daily now. However, I am saving for a leather recilining sofa and loveseat

The nose pickers, I stop, by placing socks on their hands. (I know Nannyde uses mitted sweatshirts) But sweatshirts are only useable a few days our of the year in the south!

Broke my 2 y/o of picking his nose in 2 days! It really surprised his mom. She even used the socks at home that night too!

When I first started doing daycare, I allowed the kids full access to my living room furniture. After my own niece peed all over my sofa one day and wiped poop on it the very next day, I stopped that practice. We now have a separate daycare room and the doors to the living room are kept shut. The only dc kids allowed in there are infants in port-a-cribs who need quiet to sleep.

In my last house, I had the room my husband called my untouchable room. My dogs, kids and husband were not allowed in that room. It was only to look at. :::::: I didn't do childcare in my home at that time. But if I had, those kids would have been gated out of there, too.

And I see nothing wrong with having things in our homes that we do not want ruined by the many children that go through our homes through the years. If I want to protect a couch in my home, that is my right. It IS a home after all.

In my day care, the kids are not allowed to sit on the couch without a cover on it. I use a cover that is meant to be for dogs!

At my home, the dogs are allowed on the couch any time they want with no cover.

The dogs are MUCH cleaner and better behaved than the day care kids.....

And yes....kids who deliberately smear snot all over someone's couch are being dirty little turds. I am sure she doesn't call them that to their faces...she's just venting!

I use covers like this on my couches at the day care. They come right off and wash up quick. The ones I have are dark brown.

If you were sewing minded (I'm not) I would think it would be fairly simple to make one for cheap. But I think I only paid about $40 for them. Well worth it.

I don't allow children on the furniture either. We spend most of our time in the playroom but they have daily access to my living room and sofas so we have a no little people on the furniture rule.
