There are always two sides to every story so I definitely would go into the school and request a meeting with the principle. I would discuss with him exactly what happened and what your options are.

My child was bullied in school and I know it can be tough as a parent but remember nothing gets solved in the heat of the moment or in anger. You do need to calm down and go in to the school and get to the bottom of what went on.

I had a similiar situation earlier in the year. My daughter got suspended and I took it to the school board. Needless to say her suspension was rescinded and she was able to return after being home for 2 days.

I'm not sure of the reasoning why your son was hurt and I'm not sure of the ramifications.

Essentially, the school is only responsible to call you and tell you about the issue. In fact, with privacy policies in place, it wouldn't surprise me if they could be in trouble if they told you the other students name!

I too received papers from the school describing the incident AND the action taken.

I think it's too soon to presume the other child is off the hook just yet. It usually takes a few days to call in witnesses and investigate what happened and why.

If you are concerned, take your son to the doctor and get him checked out to make sure he'll be ok.

At most, if he was injured you can file small claims court. What the school chooses to do is their decision. I don't think your opinion counts much there. Sorry.

I have filed with the school harrassment charges against a child that was a bully to mine and others in first grade. I wasn't the first one to do it either.

Now the kids are in high school and this child has a rap sheet a mile long! Was arrested while in middle school while at school a few times and then of course there are things outside of school time.

So do what you have to to get this nipped in the bud now!

my ds ran into a poll at school, injuried his eye and no one ever called me. It was his sisters who called and let me know. His eye was bruised and turned black couple days later. I would def. call and see what is going on, and remember there is a hands off policy going on too at schools, which in our school would result in suspension

I don't think your over reacting at all. I would contact the principle and find out exactly what happen. My daughter was bullied when she was in middle school and finally the girl bit her on the hand because she wanted a volleyball my daughter had. No one called me, but one of the janitors that was there did call me and I called the school and they didn't plan on doing anything but talking to this girl. I told the principle that I found that unacceptable and if she wouldn't take care of it I would. We have a school liasion and he happens to be a state cop so I called him and he went in and talked to the girl and the principle and the girl got suspend for a week and she finally quit bullying the other girls. I would demand some answers on what happen and why I wasn't contacted.

              awe your poor son...

I think a lot of us parents have all been in your shoes. My son was in trouble a lot when we first moved here and it was very hard, because a lot of it was based on racism. But I won't get into that.

First off, your mommy, we always want to protect ours. So NO, you are not over reacting.

What I would do if I were you, is try to calm down. Try your very best to get your sons side of the story and wait for them to finish the investigation. Once that is done and you find out what happened, then do your work to make sure that the other child gets what is deserved.

Its crazy to read this and know that the child that tried to choke your son got no sort of punishment, yet the other day on my local news, a first grader was expelled for sexual harassment for touching a girl in the privates on accident during a game of freeze tag. Yes that's right, the school charged a first grader with sexual harassment. Of course the parents are suing.

Ughhhh....Sorry, I got off track here. I really hope that you are able to get it all sorted out.....

I don't think you are over reacting at all. *I* teach my kids that you do not put your hands on anyone. They all take karate, so they are taught self defense, and know when to use it. I have told them that as they get older, if they put their hands on someone else, and it isn't to defend themselves, that they can go to jail.

I definately think you need to have a meeting with the principal. I don't care what the story is, unless my child had this child cornered and they feared for their safety, there is NO reason for something like that to happen!
