    Valentine's Day Ideas

So today we are making cinnamon/applesauce valentine ornaments for Mom and Dad. I meant to do this for Christmas but ran out of time. We're cutting out heart shapes and will paint them once dry (in a few days).

Any other ideas out there? lovethis

    That's a cute idea.
We are making t- shirts for one another using sand paper and crayons.
Draw a picture on sand paper using crayon, iron on t-shirt.

So each child will add a picture to the other's shirt.

For parents I think just a card... They really never seem to really appreciate the gifts anyway - so this time we are doing it for the kids whom I know will love it.

I went to the dollar store and picked up some door hangers that can be decorated and some pink doilies to decorate with stickers also. The door hangers were a kit.

I'd love more info on the t shirts. We're having a Valentines Party and Parents Night Out on Friday. I'd love to get the supplies for the shirts tonight start working on them tomorrow and then everyone would have one to take home after the Valentines Party. What kind of sandpaper? And you just iron right on the shirt? Details would be great!

Make a hug for the parents. Two handprints of the child, attached to either end of a piece of ribbon the lenght of the child's arm span. Super cute!

            @ sunflower.

            Materials:

            Fine grit sandpaper
            Good quality wax crayons
            T-shirt
            Parchment paper
            Iron
First have children draw a picture on the sandpaper pressing hard to leave a lot of colour behind.

Place a piece of cardboard inside the t-shirt to keep the design from bleeding through to the back of the shirt. Position the sandpaper right side down on the t-shirt.
Place a piece of parchment paper or paper towel on top of the sandpaper to protect the iron. Iron, on cotton setting, the sandpaper for about 30 second. Gently lift one edge and make sure you have a good print before totally removing the sandpaper. Iron a bit more if you need to transfer more of the crayon.

Remove the sandpaper. You’ll have a print with loads of cool texture–not to mention a new darling t-shirt. To set the color, place a couple of paper towels on top of the design and iron. This will remove some of the extra wax. Toss t-shirt in the dryer for about 20 minutes to set the color. Launder by itself the first time.

I may have to make those this weekend although I'm not sure how many will escape (I have a problem with chocolate).

I also found somewhere online cupid arrows using watermelon slices cut out in heart shapes with a wooden skewer put through it, and orange slices for the bottom of the arrow, and orange triangle for the arrow head. I'll be shipping this off to my son's preschool party!

We just made the tshirts! They turned out fantastic! Just remember that everything is reversed. The parents loved them and even the kiddos that were young had fun. Light colors (light pink etc) don't show up very well (we put it on a white shirt) so the bolder the better.

I found the idea on a blog and the example they used was a rainbow...super cute. Most of my younger kiddos were just scribbles and their 'pictures of ___________'. I just ironed it on and used a sharpie and wrote their name, the year, and what their picture was of! The less fine the sandpaper, the more textured the design seems but the littler ones have a much easier time with finer paper.

                      Have fun!!!
