Tell Me About Your Kitchen Table

Not even necessarily w/ regard to daycare. I just hate my table and need a new one.

Mine is wobbly and needs replaced, it feels both too large and too small at the same time. Ideally it need to be capable of seating more than 4 people (6 at least) but I only have one space that the table can fit into, and there are cabinets along one side, so I have to have space because I use those cabinets all the time (I have no choice; my kitchen is stupid).

So. Tell me about yours. Do you love it? Hate it? Is it round or square? Does it seat 4 people? 6? More?! Does it have a leaf? How much was it?
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

I went with an oblong with a pull-out, center, leaf. It seats 4-6 easily.

It works perfect for us. Very similar to this one:

I have the ugliest dining table in the world. Got it at a garage sale for a steal. It's a very long oblong table and has three leaves that make it a HUGE banquet size that stretches all across my dining area. I love the size for when we have company, but it's UGLY!

I have to keep a table cloth on it at all times because the surface is dinged up.

My husband made benches that are functional, but add to the ugliness!! I am thinking about making some covers that will slip over the top of the benches and go to the floor.

What do you think?!!! Don't you just love the 4x4 legs?!!!!!

PS....on another note, very proud to show off the fireplace brick. When we moved in, the previous owners (morons) had painted the top 3 and a half layers of brick white. Don't ask me why! We tried EVERYTHING to get the paint off. Nothing worked. So in desperation I hauled out my tole paints and started to go to work. I blended and mixed so many different browns! But the end product looks awesome! You cannot tell whats real brick and what's painted.
Next project....stripping the white paint off the corner unit!

My kitchen is designed to eat in as well as having a dining room. To utilize the limited space, we went for a rectangle shaped table with benches on both sides rather than chairs. 2 chairs go at each end. We can sit 6 comfortably.

I love our kitchen table, it is from Pottery Barn and is round with four legs instead of a pillar which I love. It comes with 2 leaves to extend when needed and can seat up to 10. For normal day to day use it seats 4 adults and 2 highchairs can pull up.
Our kitchen is on the small side and it works perfectly. We used to have a square one and it always seemed to get in the way. Corners in tight spaces can be dangerous.

@ Meek, I would have never known those bricks were painted! Awesome job!
I would love a huge brick fireplace in my kitchen, to me that's a little bit of heaven.
Also, I like the benches! I say work with it and embrace the dings, dents, and marks it adds beauty and character. Also, that 'rustic' country chic is coming into style people are paying big dollars to get some good old country charm.

Is it a wood top? If so maybe stain it and polyurethane it in a white wash or dark wood tone?

I actually made mine out of a 50 year old table and some barn wood. Then I found some pretty nice chairs on craigslist.

As you can see, we shove it up against the window during the week to make more room for daycare stuff, but whatever works, right? LOL

                World Market...

We got our last year at World Market. It's a nice table, and I LOVE the $7 vinyl tablecloths from Walmart. I have used this for crafts, never a problem! I can seat 4 kiddo's on the bench, and for those that need an actual chair, I have 4. It comes with a leaf, but ours is plenty big for the group of daycare kids here. Hindsight, I probably wouldn't have gotten the Verona with the wainscot type top... maybe something smooth would have been better.

My kitchen table is solid wood rectangle that seats 6 adults. It's got 4 chairs and a bench. I LOVE THE BENCH!!! I can squish a whole bunch of kids onto the bench. I can push the bench under the table when not in use to create more room to my eat-in kitchen. It's great.

Our table seats 8. We bought it along with 4 matching chairs on Craigslist for $300. It is oak, heavy, sturdy, and normally covered with a table cloth so the kids don't destroy it. I had 4 other oak chairs darker stained, but they match each other, just not the table.

In the picture, the table is pushed up against a window, and the leaf is out, and only 4 chairs. That was taken shortly after we moved into the house. Now we have a family of 5 (plus our daycare friends) the leaf is always left in, and sometimes 8 seats isn't enough. LOL
Give a little love to a child, and you get a great deal back.

I have a round antique oak table that has been passed thru the family. Love the table but hate the size of our dining area. You have to pass thru it to the hall, kitchen, living and patio. I'm not skinny by any means so I am always squeezing by something or someone. We have to go with a round table cause a square or rectangle wont fit and you can get more chairs up to a round.

I have a table that sits 8 and they are bar stool hieght. I just bought it in the summer. At first I wasn't sure about the hieght, but I love it, even my kids love it. I needed more room (I have 4 kids) and it was way too squishy with us around a smaller table. The only thing I don't like is that it needs glass for the top, I noticed some scratches from their binders and its a darker wood.

I got my kitchen table a couple years ago at Levin furniture. I love it! It is a higher table with bar stool height chairs. It is almost square and seats 6 without the built in leaf. It seat 8 using the leaf. It has 2 shelves underneath that I use to store some of my prettier bakeware. It is $899 on sale right now. We purchased 2 extra chairs though so we would have 8 total. Here is a pic (hopefully..or maybe I put it as an attachment...if it is not there, here is the link to the levin website and table http://www.levinfurniture.com/p-961-420-collection.aspx ).
