Computer Time Question. Online programs like Starfall?

So some of you might have seen my earlier post about getting kids ready for kindergarten.

I was thinking of incorporating some computer learning time to their week (maybe 15 mins/4 times a week). They enjoy Starfall.com but was wondering if anyone knew of any other similar programs that could help the kids practice colors, letters, shapes, etc. but also work on the basic skills of using a computer.

Does anyone else incorporate computer time into their week? What FREE programs do you use? How much time is dedicated to it weekly?

This one is not free, but it's called ABC mouse.com The kids love it and my son loves to play it daily. It is $10.00 a month. You would have to look into it, as I can't explain it very well...

I use it as a privilege. I don't do time outs and it really works well with the kids.....I allow the kids 15 min. Most of them get bored before then. It does take a little teaching from you to show them how to use the mouse properly. Otherwise lots and lots of frustrations.

Starfall is still the best online FREE preschool program that I know of. It would be interesting to see if any other good ones come up!

I tried a free trail of ABC mouse.com; but I wasn't willing to spend $10/mo on it. It looks cool; but my son and a part timer are the only preK kids I have right now; so not worth the $$ for me!

I know it's on your other thread; but believe me... your little preKers sound more than ready for kindergarten! My daughter completed kindergarten last year and all of things your DCM was worried about are things they taught in kindergarten. Some or most of the kids in my daughter's class didn't even REALLY learn to read (phonetically) until the 1st grade. Social skills, and independent skills (like using scissors, glue, folding paper, and dressing themselves) are the most important.

PBSkids.org is pretty good. You have to watch them because they can easily find their way to videos...but they have some great problem-solving games on there.

Nickjr. is also decent if you research the best games on there. Dora has some about colors, matching, etc.
