Worst Morning Ever!!
Well of the 6 children that came in this morning I should have sent home 4 of them.
My first pair came in with no ski pants. This is the family I had posted about that gave me notice to terminate on Saturday. My contract states:
Outdoor play will be offered to your child on a regular basis (weather permitting). In the winter months we will only go outside if the weather is -10C or warmer. Please bring appropriate outdoor clothing.
In the winter this would include: mittens, hats, scarf’s, a warm winter jacket and ski pants. Please be sure to bring these items on all days in the winter when the weather is -10C or warmer. If any one child is not dressed properly we will not be able to go outside. I do reserve the right of sending a child home if they come unprepared to play outside in the weather conditions, fees for any time missed due to being sent home not prepared for the weather are non-refundable.
When I brought it up to the grandma she gave me a look like, "You had better not send me home to get them!"
Because I didn't want to stir the pot any further with this family I didn't send them home. Then grandma makes the remark, "It's cold outside today anyways!"
...Um grandma its -12C and it's 8am, its suppose to hit -8C by this afternoon and it's the beginning of February we are used to -40C weather or worse this time of year!
Because I didn't send the kiddies home to get ski pants we are stuck inside all day today!
Then my second pair of kids come in and dcd says dcg1 has been feeling under the weather. I assumed this meant she had a bit of a cold. He proceeds to undress the kids as we make small talk and then I asked, "Did dcg have a fever at all this weekend?" with which he responds, "Ya but not since 10pm last night!"
That was less than 10 hours ago! I immediately told dcd that children have to be fever free for 24 hours before they can return to daycare as per contract. I do have children with compromised immune systems in my care that can be hospitalized if they catch these things and he would have to take the girls home. He gave me a blank stare and then about 30 seconds later he says, "Well it wasn't much of a fever."
Any fever is a fever in my books! Sorry buddy! I did end up sending the girls home. Right before he left he said, "I'm not mad I just don't know what to do with them now." Seriously!? How about take your sick baby home and rest her up so she can get healthy again.
By the way my contract reads:
Please remember at all times that our daycare is a ‘well’ daycare.
I will provide childcare to children who are suffering from a minor cold. This includes a bit of a runny nose and a minor cough. Any other illnesses will not be permitted within our childcare home. This includes severe colds, flus of any kind, as well as any other contagious or non-contagious illnesses that limit your child’s ability to be part of regular daycare activities.
If your child shows any signs of these symptoms please keep him/her home until the symptoms have completely cleared up.
I ask that you notify me as soon as you can that your child will not be attending that day or for a period of time (at least 24 hours) and I also ask that you inform me of what symptoms your child is suffering from at that moment. Please do not send your child to daycare until they are free of symptoms for 24 hours.
- This means if your child has a fever and it breaks at 9pm on Sunday night, the child CAN NOT attend daycare on Monday. Tuesday morning he/she will be accepted back into care.
These things just rattle my cage. Now I'm sitting here wondering if Dcd of sick child is going to give me notice too.
