    Websites/printables/etc all welcome!

    Thank you!

    Because the passage of time is such an abstract concept for young children, I find it best to teach the days of the week in as concrete a way as possible.
    When referencing a certain day I will say, for example, "Today is Tuesday and we go to storytime on Tuesdays." (We have spaghetti for lunch on Wednesdays, Ashley comes over on Fridays, etc. - whatever happens at your program.) You could post a real calendar and put pictures that corresponded with activities on the days.
    We also read books that discuss the days of the week during storytime. Some titles include:
    Today is Monday by Eric Carle
    The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
    Hannah and the Seven Dresses by Marthe Jocelyn
    Cookie's Week by Cindy Ward & Tomie DaPaola
    Big Week for Little Mouse by Eugene and Kim Fernandes
    Some songs include:
    Everybody Happy by Sharon , Lois, and Braham
    The Days of the Week:
    To the tune of “The Addams Family” Theme Song
    Days of the week, (clap, clap)
    Days of the week, (clap, clap)
    Days of the week,
    Days of the week,
    Days of the week. (clap, clap)
    There’s Sunday and there’s Monday,
    There’s Tuesday and there’s Wednesday,
    There’s Thursday and there’s Friday,
    And then there’s Saturday!
    Days of the week, (clap, clap)
    Days of the week, (clap, clap)
    Days of the week,
    Days of the week,
    Days of the week. (clap, clap)

      The kids LOVE the hungry caterpillar, good call!

      I like that song too, I am going to try it after naptime today. Thanks for the great ideas!

        When we do the calendar, they put the calendar piece on and I say, today is Wednesday, February 1st, then we sing a song that goes;

        Today is Wednesday, today is Wednesday, come and play, come and play. Lets have fun together, Lets have fun together on Wednesday, on Wednesday.

        The days of the week song i sing, simply goes;
        Sunday Monday-Tuesday Wednesday-Thursday Friday Saturday
        Sunday Monday-Tuesday Wesnesday-Thursday Friday Saturday

        Not sure how to explain the tune, so that's probably really not much help!
