    Never initiating a potty trip?

    I have a 2.5 year old who the parents have been trying to potty train since she turned 2. Obviously, she wasn't quite ready when they started but I think shes ALMOST there. I have her in a pull up and she can stay dry all day (except nap)...peeing in the potty when I tell her to go every few hours. She gets excited every time she goes potty. BUT...she never says, "I have to go potty" or goes in there by herself. She has every other 'ready' sign! She does her pants all be herself, wipes, and washes hands. But I can't get the self-initiation part happening.

    Any ideas? thanks Potty training experts.

      If I never took her to the potty all day, then yes-she'd go. But the past week and a half she's been holding it in between each trip to the potty. She is a VERY advanced 2.5 year old and talks up a STORM. She can definitely say the words.

      Oh, she wears undies at home and its the same deal (parents take her). She has maybe an accident a week and when it happens she says "Uh o, potty!" And runs into the potty to change

        set a timer and then when it goes off very excitedly say it is time to go potty... each time you let her get further ahead of you and do it herself.

        Switching to training pants often does the trick. They have no idea they are wet in a pull up.
        It:: will wait

          I agree. Might be time to get her really excited about big girl undies and hope that she will care enough to not soil them. it might take awhile so be prepared for a few accidents in the transition but it sounds like she really could be ready.
