Most of my daycare kids only nap here....parents think that their kids don't need naps.

So when the weekend comes, they don't nap. The Monday comes and the first thing that happens is that they all fall on their faces. I have a horrible time getting the kids to wake up. They just want to sleep and sleep and sleep. and this is always, not just one day out of the week...

Then the parents complain that they can't get them to go to sleep at night.

I have asked them to consider being consistent and having them nap on the weekends, so that they can actually participate in the preschool program that I have... Without proper food and sleep, no one can function to participate in learning..

    Drives me up a wall..........
you must have been the fly on my wall yesterday because I had 2 parents tell me this.

      Parent here...

You know though, we are stuggling with this right now with my almost 4 year old. She naps at daycare from 1:30-3:30/4. Falls alsleep and everything and half the time, she gets woken up from her nap so she obviously needs it. BUT, we put her to bed at 8:00pm at night and she often lays in there for 1-2 hours trying to fall asleep. We have no TV in there, no toys etc. She isn't one to get out of bed and only a couple of times per week does she call for us so she isn't being disruptive but she is also not going to sleep.

What are all your thoughts on this? I mean, I feel like we do everything right (nap even on weekends, consistent bedtime etc) but it still isn't work.

With my daughter, who is almost 4 as well, I always give her a bath, read a few stories, sing her songs, say prayers, and then let her play her Leapfrog Explorer or her Leapfrog Tag Reader. I tell her that she may play a little bit, but that she needs to turn it off and go to bed when she is done. I always check on her after an hour or so ad she is always asleep. We start her routine around 7:00 or so, and she is usually in bed by 7:35/45.

okay so here is an update. I ask the DCM of the 2 year old...

            "How is everything at home?"
            "everything is great"
"anything new going on because I have noticed A is very tired during the day"
"noo.....everything is fine, she is sleeping fine at home"

            awkward pause

"well, actually, A just got transitioned to a toddler bed and wakes up and plays when she is supposed to be sleeping, that could be it"

ummmm, yeah...thanks for keeping me updated. First of all, I was under the impression that they had moved her out of a crib a LONG time ago. She is 2.5 and huge for her age, easily as tall as a petite 4 year old. very frustrating to have to dig these things out of the parents. Off topic but I guess they leave her unattended while mom gets ready in the morning! A got into the markers and colored all over herself while mom was taking a shower, yikes! I am concerned that she is not being supervised in the mornings.

Now for the 1 year old....

DCM has consistently complained that little one does not sleep thru the night, wakes early, LOTS of crying throughout the night. I was told that last night, M was up from 2-5. They let her cry for one hour and then "we thought she was hungry, got her up and loaded up her high chair with every type of food she might eat", then try and get her to sleep and she cried for another 2 hours. instead of waking her and keeping on the schedule in the morning, they sleep in for an hour and mom goes into work late. you see what I am dealing with here. It doesnt matter what I do here because they do random stuff at home included late night play sessions, medicating, CIO, long bouts of rocking, etc, etc. Now I just let her sleep and dont even try to keep her on our schedule because then I am dealing with a fussiness, tantrums, crying, etc.

dont even get me started on the other 1 year old. I let her sleep here out of pity for her. Her parents run her ragged at home and she is begging for some quiet down time on the days she is here (part timer). I was told tomorrow they are going for a full day of "fun" with the relatives including an indoor play place that is not age appropriate for her (I know, I have been there) and then try in squezze in a few more kid friendly activities. Going places equals love in that family.
you see why there are two schedules in this house...one for my kids, one for the DC kids.

is there any way to maybe move your lunch nap time up a bit? say eat at 11am instead and nap at 11:30 ?

that might help some and they could sleep later for nap to possibly.
