Current Family wants to extend hours

I totally understand why they want to, but I am not interested. It is only by one hour and I already have very easy hours for their family (9 am - 4 pm).

I have enjoyed the hour between DCG leaving and my husband getting home so I can get the house picked up, food made and ready to have a family evening. I don't want to see that all pushed to 6 pm.

She is part time so it is only 3 more hours per week. I know i should do it, but I just don't want to say yes.

Then don't! If they like you that much, they'll find someone else to pick up their kid if they can't pick up at your regular time.

It's your business, don't do anything you don't want to do. You'll end up resenting that family.

If you don't want to do it...don't do it!!! Don't feel badly about it either, you need to do what works for you.

I never do anything I don't WANT to because I always end up regretting it in the end. My contract says I nrequire at least one weeks written notice about schedule changes/changes in hours for care and I cannot/will not guarantee those hours will be approved.

I really like this girl and her family has been nice to work with, so I should say yes and get over myself. But I needed to tell someone that I didn't want to before I just get it done.

Can you do it for a "trial period"? Just let them know that if you're finding it too difficult then you're going to go back to the regular hours?

Other than that I think you'll just fall into a new routine after a while and get used to it

It is always a hard decision. I just started a new family (full-time) and extended my hours by 20 mins. to adjust for them getting off of work. They work where my husband does so I do know they are at work till that time. Anyway this one is here about 40 min to an hour sometimes by themselves and its making for one long time at closing. I didn't think it would impact us so much but boy does it. I can't go walking anymore, dinner has to be started almost immediately when she leaves so we don't run late doing it in the evening, errands are being either done during dinner and I eat later or I go to the store later.

Love the family but having a hard time with this last hour.

yes, I am off at 4:30 and even that is late enough!! I have children's activities to get them to and from. I also have supper, groceries to get, etc. etc... If you say yes, to it, you will for sure regret it, and kick yourself in the butt over it!!!!
