I need some fresh ideas....what to do with a 4 year old boy who is suddenly crying....alot.....throughout the day. Drop off is a nightmare. He quits crying at breakfast and when he's doing something he REALLY enjoys.....but during down times he goes right back to it. I have him sit in a cozy area and he can read or do puzzles.....but this is where he can cry. This has gone on for over a week now. Mom was gone all last week but now she's back.

I would have him sit onthe fussing rug. He can fuss all he wants on it but not off it.

I think you're doing the right thing, but I don't know this little boy. Does he seem to be genuinely sad, or is he being manipulative?

At 4, he should be fairly verbal. Can you sit down with him alone for a few minutes when he's not crying, and ask him what's bothering him? It's worth a try.
