Looking For Lesson Plans

I am not good at coming up with themes for lessons (and truth be told, we would be lucky to get 2 days in of some kind of lesson right now with our colicky baby), but I would like to have a plan. How do you come up with your lesson plans if you don't buy a cirriculum? Is there a place to just get a free list of themes for the months and weeks?

I am using Letter of the Week, I have took some of their ideas but also made some of my own. We are doing one letter, one shape, one color and one number a week. I made coloring sheets, letter writing sheets, flash cards and projects lining up with the weekly lesson. I have three two year olds a three year old and a four year old in my pre-school program so they are at different abilities. Mommy Brag...My daughter (age two) knows all her letters by site and is getting shapes and colors easily. happyface I do a daily update on my daycare private facebook and state what our weekly theme is hoping parents will follow through with it at home. I like this for my age range and it is a free site.

This is what I was trying to do too. But the kids seemed bored. What are you doing to make it age appropriate? My kids (that will be participating) range from 20 months to almost 4.

With the two year olds we color, paint and "try" to write it on paper. I say great job even though it looks like a circle. The 3 and 4 year old write the letters and we try to think of animals or things that begin with the letter. I focus the color of the week and shape of the week more with the two year olds and the letter and the number of the week with the older ones. I do review as a group as well. At circle time we sing songs that start with the letter like Alligator Soup for "A" and read books that start with the letter like Panda's Busy Day for "P". I also ask everyone to go and quickly grab a toy that is the color of the week for our daily show and tell. happyface

with ones that cant write yet, I like to get creative...

Like:

cut pieces of foil into squares (medium size) use a permanent marker and draw the letter A on it or a. Then use apple sauce and have the kids trace the letter on the foil with their finger. As they are doing it, you can have them say, the A, say aaa. Then they can lick their fingers..

Get creative.... I do this with all of the kids, even the ones that can write...

there is a lot of free stuff out there, I like everyday preschool book. its from the mailbox.com and it has super fun ideas... Lot of learning through play...
