well I think it is self-inflicted. your word means nothing if you don't stick to you. I would have shoved both families out the door, then closed and locked it, end of story.

Godiva, seriously...you need to say something to these women when they pick up today.

If you don't want to term or charge more, at the very least I'd say something like:

"The situation that occurred this morning is unacceptable and I will absolutely not allow it to happen again, or your care will be terminated."

They need to know that you mean business or they'll continue to walk all over you. Trust me, I learned that lesson the hard way!!!!

          Thanks everyone
I know I shouldn't want these people as clients but being 5 months pregnant and about to close in 6 months for a year now is not a good time to lose or term anyone KWIM

Anyway, luckily today I had marked down in my handbook as a Stat Holiday in my contract it states I will be closed unless prior arrangements are made and your fee will be time and a half. At pick up I said, " this will be the last stat holiday I will be working on such short notice and the extra fee is due in cash by tomorrow AM - at least I am up $40 and had a very easy day.

Cannot even believe that they did something so...crappy. That's really the only word for it.

Glad you at least have it in your contract that you get time and a half for it (I like that, think I'll be adding it to mine!). Let us know how they take it and if you get paid. Maybe add to your contract that prior arrangements means more than 24 hours notice?
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

Because this has happened to me before, I now post a note on the outside of my door that says "DAYCARE CLOSED TODAY". They just don't read notices sent home with them, and I hate being woken up by a doorbell or knocking on the door due to an airhead mom. LOL

I would never have opened the door. That is so rude that they'd do that to you. I would never take that kinda treatment from my daycare parents. Neverrrrr

Only Joyce mentioned having a sign. That is the first thing I thought of. I would hang up a sign on Friday morning the says Payment Due as a reminder so why not have a sign outside the main door for being closed? You could even put it out before you go to bed and then turn your phone off until you wake up!

Print on red construction paper the word CLOSED really large then underneath it you could customize it and write "Please refer to your contract for closed holidays for 2012" and cut it out in the shape of a stop sign to be cute about it.

I do think it's extrememly rude, but at the same time I wonder why you didn't say something when you opened the door like "Hey, thanks for thinking of me, but I have many plans today and can't have visitors" or something. If you are willing to work days like this then I agree to put that it's time and a half and scheduled.
