Ugh..Someone's Cat Pooped In Our Sand Box..

so we have a massive sandbox....not sure how big it is. I just know it takes 15 bags of sand to fill...

Well the lid blew off in the wind storm we had a few days ago and someones cat used it as a littler box.

So question is, do I have to dump out all of the old sand and replace it or is there something that I can put in it to clean it out and disinfect it?

We change the sand already as it is about every 3 months..

Anyone know how to clean this up?? Or do I really have to dump the old sand and replace it??

Gross...That's why we went with Rubber Mulch on our playground. We spent over $2000 on it but it was worth it. NO MAINTENANCE!

**You really should change the sand and if you can wash and sanitize the actual sandbox. There can be worm eggs ,bacteria or disease germs in the sand that can not be seen.

that is what I thought....ugh and yes it is super gross..

I wanted to rid of the sandbox, but it really is the kids most favorite thing to do when outside playing.... WE are even brave enough to have an indoor one....

oh yeah I forgot to mention... I cant clean out the sandbox very well, as it is part of the ground.... We dug a 2 foot giant square whole in the ground and filled it. There is wood siding that goes around it that is also partially underground as well.. I can try to dig out most of it, but not all of it will come out. The wood is water proof, but can't really sanitize it.

Do you think just trying to rid of all the old sand would be ok??

Hopefully! Could you line it with a black tarp or trash bag so the new sand does not touch where the old sand was? This might help too if it's lined in case a kitty cat comes back and does it again, for easy removal. ::

Sorry, I'm one of those people who's cat pooped in the neighbor's sandbox. I didn't feel guilty because they kept enticing my cat over into their yard with catfood after I asked them not to.

I'll have to find the article, but I read where you can just spray everything with bleach. I printed it out for my neighbor.

I thought about that and then just leaving it sit over night, rinisng and repeating it...

I know what you mean... I do love cats really I do.. and I do think that by putting a huge sandbox there without a cover is like sending an invite to come and poop in it..

I will be locking on the new top...
