    Not Sure What To Think?

One of my DCFs (of 2 DCGs) that I have had for almost 3 years has not shown up this week...I wouldn't have thought they just up and quit, as just last week they gave me and my children Christmas gifts and a bonus, but this is not normal for them to no call no show for 3 days in a row. Payments were due on Monday, so this is quite a bit of income missing for 2 children. I have called and texted, with no response. This family has never just not shown up...so I just don't know what to think?

I'd hate to think like this, but maybe something happened? Maybe someone is ill or hurt and needed to go to the hospital?

Or maybe they are on vacation and never told you?

Can you call someone on their emergency list, and just state that you are concerned and are checking to see it they are all OK?

melskids advice is exactly what I was going to recommend... call an emergency contact and see if everything is ok.

I hope everything is fine, and they have not ditched out on you! I have had families go out of town and "forget" to let me know and come back as usual when they return.

I'd be concerned too. Hopefully everything is okay.

I am going to start making calls here in 20 mins when it's 9am...

And I did check their parents facebook pages for any condolences that might have been left recently...but there weren't any.

Finally got a hold of them...their cells are dead...that's why they didn't answer...the mom said she texted me to let me know they wouldn't be here this week (nope...I don't have a text from) and my bonus was my pay She's a teacher and only required to pay 2 days per week during vacation times...that's what the "bonus" equalled.

The new contract issued this week clearly won't allow this to happen again without consequences.

Aw! What a bummer (re: the pay)!

                  At least nothing tragic happened.

Perhaps you can change your contract to insist that notice of days off may NOT be given via text--it must be verbal/ written.

On the bright side...at least they paid you in advance!
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

Same exact thing happened to me and I was freaking out. They never called or showed up and it was very very unlike this family.. I called, text, and emailed. On the second day I called one of the emergency contacts and checked to see if everything was ok.

It ended up that the whole family was out camping in Yosemite, had no cell access and they just completely forgot to tell me...

When they got back in cell range, they called me and they felt so bad for forgetting to tell me... The dad thought mom did and vice versa....

I do have in my policy that if someone does not call or show for 3 consecutive days that i will drop them without refund and have the right to fill their spot....

Ok, YOU know these people and I don't. However, from an outsider's perspective, I think she was avoiding you. Both their cellphones are dead??? Do they not have a home phone??? She texted you and it didn't come through??? (If YOUR phone works fine, this wouldn't happen.) Her cell was dead but she managed to text you??? If she could text you, couldn't she call you??? If... IF their cellphones were both truely dead, could she not stop by and tell you???

There is a lot wrong with her story. As I said, you know them, so maybe I'm just making false assumptions. But if this were me, it would have really ticked me off. I would let her know that you were this close to having the police do a welfare check on their house. Lay it on thick and say you were really concerned that something awful might have happened. I'm sorry, but I'm not buying her story for a minute. I think she knows she messed up, and when she saw calls and texts from you, she ignored them. She's shutting off the world during her vacation, and couldn't be bothered with responsibilities. I could be way off here, but it smells fishy.

this right here is why I don't allow parents to text me important things at all... I have it in my PHB that text messages will not be accepted with informing the provider of important information. SUch as being early, late, child not attending, child is sick with illness, and etc. The parent will be required to call. They may text me for any other reason....like Johnny already ate breakfast or johnny forgot his show and tell at home.

I don't buy it either.... I used to have a family do the "Oh I sent you a text you didn't get it"???? Yeah funny how when I say I am giving free daycare they are the first ones to respond.....But when its anything else, I never get the text.....

I have 3 families who are all teachers. I give them 1/2 the weekly rate in the Spring for their break, and Winter break. The Holidays are paid at reg. price and the other days at 1/2 price.
