Well, I Guess If You Aren't Worried, I Shouldn't Be...

I texted a mom to let her know that her 7 mo baby has been refusing bottles or liquids of any kind today. She said he did that the whole 4 day weekend too. Alrighty. So I guess I shouldn't worry about it if she isn't? WTH?! Whatever!

How is he eating? Is he still having wet diapers?

As long as he is eating well it is likely that he is getting the extra fluid he needs through his food. Fruit, vegetables, yogurt, custard, jellies, ice cream, ice lies, eggs, soups, stews, mashed potato are all examples of foods which contain a considerable amount of fluid. They are also good ways of increasing his fluid intake if you are worried.

If he was getting too little fluid he would become dehydrated. The signs of this are that he would lose energy and seem tired or floppy, he would pass a small amount of dark yellow (concentrated) urine maybe once or twice in 24 hours, he would have a dry mouth and lips and his skin tone would be reduced, feeling dry and less elastic than usual. It is almost unknown for a well child to become dehydrated as a result of refusing fluids.
