Kinda Feeling How Parents Feel About Kid Getting Sent Home!

I get a call from the nurse saying my son's face is all red and blotchy and shes never seen anything like it, please come and pick him up! So my husband goes to get him, I open the door and he's there with a big smile on his flushed face. My husband laughs and says the nurse said it was alot worse when she called. Ok, so now he's home and running around like the other 5 I got here. Its 30 degrees outside and we both have really sensitive skin, and he also has a itchy spot on his face. Now when I scratch, my skin gets very red, sometimes if i just touch my face it gets red. Glad I dont have a real job and had to leave work for this!

Now you can see the parents's side of this.

Not all parents can leave work at the drop of a hat. That's why they find responsible daycare.

UGH! I go through it too.

MY boys have an hour and 15 minute bus ride to school @ 6:45 in the morning. (We live in the boonies)

My younger son gets car sick all the time. (our poor bus driver is a saint!lovethis)

So it never fails, the nurse was calling 2 or three mornings a week for me to come get him.

After getting sick of packing all my DC kids up to go get a child who was fine after a few crackers and gingerale, never mind how much school he was missing....I finally convinced her that he was NOT contagious and she now lets him rest for a bit in her office and then sends him to class.

I say this all the time. Meaning an outside of home job. I am sure she was not insinuating being s provider was not a real job

I've had a few heart to heart's with our school nurse. Unless my child is puking, has a fever, etc, don't call me. I've got 4 children in elementary school. They can play the tummy ache game there and get out of class for a half hour and hang out in the nurses office. It's not a ticket home!

And, the only time I send kids home from daycare is for the same...vomiting is an instant "Do Not Pass Go", 2 or more blowouts/diahhrea diapers will give you a ticket home, a fever, a rash, pink eye, lice, etc.

I don't send home for a cold or a runny nose but if the child isn't able to participate or wants to sleep all day, that'd be an exclusion too.

In my 3 years of daycare, I've only sent home because of vomit 3 times, fever 2 times and diahhrea 2 times.

I understand parents have a job to do and my kids know they don't get any special treatment while I'm working. If anything, they are left to hang out in their room and I check on them as I can. They'd rather be in school!

I'd call the nurse and tell her not to call you for flush skin again and I'd have hubby take him back to school!

The only time I've ever called a parent to come get their child is when an SA on a non-school day was out of control and started getting violent. He's 8 and almost as tall as me and I just couldn't restrain him so his mother had to come get him. From then on we stuck to a before and after school situation.

I have yet to ask a parent to come get a sick child. The parents know if their child is sick and needs to stay home. No one wants to have to leave work to come get them at daycare.

wish we had school nurses, I get calls from the secratery. Just 2 weeks ago I get a call saying that ds is sick and that his stomach hurts, I need to get him now because he is going to throw up. So I pack all the kids up and get him and he was perfectly fine. I was so mad. He just came in from recesses and was running around. If she just would have let him sit there he would have been fine. I also hate the fact that the school doesn't carry tylenol/motrin or tums. Man would that save me alot of headache from getting the kids. I hate when they call and tell me that the kids are complaining of a headache, so what do you want me to do about it.

I send kids home if they are sick, yesterday I sent the baby home but she was sick, started spiking a fever. I have no problems sending sick kids home but they have to be really sick to be sent home.

I had to have the same discussion with our school nurse when my kids were younger; it helped cut out some of the calls home. I also used to tell my kids that if they were sick enough to stay home or leave early from school, their bodies must really need rest. When they were home, they stayed in bed or on the living room sofa. No tv, no toys, no video games, no fun. They didn't miss school very often after I put that rule into effect.
