Where’s A Thread On Breast Feed Transition To Bottle?

Would like to help one of my parents with this. She breast feeds her 5mo but would like to transition..she says I'm a miracle worker...I love that!!

She has tried every bottle and doesn't want to buy anymore...I've never had this situation as my son now 9 yrs never took to the breast and my daughter transitioned very well. I don't believe this child takes to a pacifier either.

Mom isn't to worried over it but any inform. would be good anyway.

It may not be the bottles. Has she tried having someone else try all the bottles? Its very common for breastfed babies to refuse the bottle with mom. She also may need to play with the temperature of the milk, different formulas, different flows on the nipples. Some babies are just really really picky.

For the actual bottle, I have found Nuks to be a great option. My own breastfed 6 month old does well on the First Years Breastflow bottle. My second child liked the Adiris. Both are marketed as good transitions for breastfed babies.

Great suggestions Cheerful!! I will advise mom..she would like to start weening her but her little one is picky...she much prefers the breast. I wonder if she let me try if she'd feed from me. Hmm...

I have heard that Nuks are great bottles shaped like the breast and work very well on weening.. I'll have to try that.

          Thanks again!!

I have bottle trained several babies. Ya know the ones whose moms said they took bottles. LOL. Mine all loved the Platex Ventair - I have both the narrow and wide nipples. My older DD NEVER took a bottle and believe me, we tried. She was on nasty meds and I think she associated anything plastic with the medicine dropper (reflux). We had her on a sippy cup very young. Younger DD transitioned just fine which made my DH so happy when he was home with her starting at age 3 mo. She liked the narrow bottles. My favorite trick for babies was standing with them facing away from me, looking out the sliding door. Feed them that way b/c they are busy looking outside. Worked with every child I trained. Not that we didn't have a couple of rough days to start with.

I discovered these bottles last year, and they have been amazing for transitioning.

They are soft, and the nipples collapse a little as the babies eat.

I used the breastflow with my first little one. Worked great.

I agree to try feeding in different positions. I transitioned one breast fed baby that would only take the bottle if she couldn't see me very well. It was a bit awkward but it worked. She did the exact same thing for both my assistants so this little one definitely showed us what worked for her.
