Yesterday and today it was below 20 degrees. The T-shirt kid count is now 2. WTH?! And of course, they were both cold, so I had to find hoodies. Come on people! I don't care if the kid wanted to wear the shirt, put something on over it! That's what I do with my son when he wants to wear the same Toy Story T-shirt every day!
So I Guess 18 Degrees Is T-Shirt Weather!

I had a 6 month old show up Monday with a fleece vest and a long sleeved onsie on when they know we walk my dd to school every morning. I assumed her coat was in her bag....ummm...no. I had to find something to fit her so we could go. Grrrr. It's below freezing here.- Flag

THis made me laugh. I am currently wearing a tshirt and it's about high 20s outside.. BUT I am pregnant and having hot flashes and have a sweater for when they go away.
I have been very lucky and for the most part my kids are dressed appropriately.- Flag

Yesterday my 2 YODCG showed up whereing a t-shirt and shorts (was supposts to be the coldest day so far this year). At drop off Mom said she is
whereing a funking outfit because I need to do laundry, Mom knows that yesterday was early dismiss day around here and therefore we go to to
park for an hour afterschool. (how hard would it have been to put on a pair of pants that was "cleaner") On a posative note mom rember shoes this time.- Flag

Summer clothes in winter here too!
Yes, I share this family with you Zoe! I'm in MN and the two kids in this one family are allowed to wear t-shirts OUTSIDE when it is 19 degrees outside. AND, the kicker is, if they don't want to wear their coats outside for playtime, I AM NOT TO make them do it!!!! Can you imagine taking the 12 kids outside and two are not required to wear their coats? Then you have the rest not wanting their gear either! When will parents stop letting the kids be in charge?- Flag

Well it has been better since I mentioned it the families that their kids were cold. I do have extra hoodies and coats that I let the kiddos wear during the day, but I don't ever mention it as I don't want the parents to rely on them.
Last winter I had a 4yo dcg who didn't wear socks all throughout the season. At first, I was like, "um..." but I would check her feet and they were NEVER cold to the touch! So I let it be and she never got sick. It was odd but fine with me.
But I draw the line at inproper snow gear and t-shirts in the MN winter!- Flag

If I had a nickel for every time my daycare parents didn't bring appropriate clothes for the weather, I'd be a rich woman! Even if I continually ask for spare clothes (including layers for changing weather), they may only occasionally bring it in. Then, if I use the clothing when a child has an accident, I have to hound them again for weeks to bring in replacement spare clothes.
When the weather changes, I send home notes about the clothing/items I'd like to have on hand for that season. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I dont. The worst are the jackets and boots (and I can just forget about mittens and hats).
So, what I've done is get some Goodwill/yard sale/outgrown items that I keep. I also get donations from other parents to add to my stash. I have several pairs of snowpants, several sizes of jacket, a big basket of mittens and hats (they get washed regularly and will be assigned to just 1 kid for the season), and a few pairs of boots.
I have it right in my contract/handbook that kids need these items for the weather. I would never agree to any parent insisting their kids go without jackets! If they don't provide one, I will...and the kids WILL wear them. I am all about preventing them from having a weakened immune system and getting sick (because then everyone else gets sick, too) - not to mention I feel it is abuse (!) to allow a child outside without proper coverings for the weather!- Flag

And I have been told I am never to remove their long sleeves, and tights that they wear all year long even under their long pants.
These kids were breaking out in heat rash and blisters.
So I just stripped them down to the appropriate layers for the weather we were having and put it all back on before the parents came. Got tired of arguing with them.- Flag

I will trade you those t-shirt kids for my two 5 layers of clothing kids that come all year long even in the summer.

I grew up in a nice family, was a good student, a nice girl, so I have no idea why I have such an issue with authority! :::
:
So reading your post, I was thinking, "gee if someone ordered me not to take off any layer of clothing on a child and didn't give me a good enough reason for doing so, just to spite them, I'd have the kid in a diaper (weather permitting) when they picked up.jk, but not really.

Ugh. No I wouldn't like that either. But you know, I got into this business for many reasons, ONE of them being that I don't like it when people tell me what to do. Don't ask me why, maybe it's just because I'm a control freak, but heaven help anyone, even a daycare parent, if I get ordered to do something.

They would even call me to check on them and asked me if I had them outside, one day it was a very chilly 60 degrees here in southern Californiaand I said yes, they are playing....jeez, you would have thought they were accusing me of beating them! "take them in right now, it's too cold now they are going to get sick!"
Zoe, I love it! I am the same way, I don't like it either, someone telling me what to do, especially in my own home.- Flag
