I had a mom call to tell me her son has Itp. Any advice? I'm wary to accept him into care.
Itp?

Do you have lots of high climbing equipment or really rough kids?
Really the limitations are minimal.. No Motrin and be careful of soft tissue injuries.- Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.- Flag

The only consideration, to me, would be how far Mom has to travel back to daycare if there ever was a serious injury causing a bad bleed, YKWIM?
If it is just a few minutes I'd not worry a bit. If you are not confortable with it, just tell Mom and she can tell you what you need to know or find alternative care. Don't feel pressured into something you don't feel comfortable with.- Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.- Flag

I bet he is feeling too weak to be in daycare like that.... (although I am not familiar with those measuring units, I assume they are percentages. Typically I see them in the 3.8-6.0 M/cumm range for RBC and 5.0-15.0 K/cumm range for wbc on reports)
Ugh... Maybe set a individualized policy of when he is "too ill" to attend so he is not miserable AND surrounded by other kids too?
Requiring a doctors note of limitations will be helpful with this.- Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.- Flag

My ds had it at age 5. He had a bloody nose one morning when he got up and then it went away. I dropped him at daycare and let her know he had one. went to pick him up at lunch time for preschool and she told me his nose had started again an hour after I dropped him off and hadn't stopped. She didn't call me at all to let me know. He was hospitalized for 4 days. His count was at 40 when we went to urgent care and by the time he was admitted to the children's hospital (2hrs later) he was down to 2. He had several injections of medications. His energy level was normal by the time he was discharged.
Since it doesn't run in our family, they said he probably wouldn't get it again. We just cut out horseplay until he got the ok from his dr that his levels were normal again. He had to have his blood checked weekly for 1 month and then again in another month. Whenever he gets a bloody nose that lasts longer than 10 minutes it freaks me out-and he is almost 11 now. For the longest time I was constantly looking over his arms, legs, face and trunk area for the little blood blister like things that he was covered in.
I would just make sure there is no fooling around and set a time limit if he were to start bleeding-cut, nose, whatever-that dcm would have to pick him up.- Flag

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I am looking for more on this. I work for a daycare now and watch 2 year olds. One of these children was just in the hospital from this same ITP that is talked about here. His mom said that the other kids cannot hit him in the head and i am to call her immediately if he is hit in the head. I am really stressing about this. I try to keep a lid on horseplay but these are 2 year olds and they all seem to hit or push when they want something or have a disagreement. I am not sure how I can guarantee that this child is never hit by another 2 yo. Also, this child is my wildest of the bunch who listens the least...jumping on couches, playing on steps, smacking his head into me when angry, etc. are daily occurences for him. I am so nervous and stressing about this. Anyone have any reassurance or thoughts on this before I stress myself into quitting?- Flag
