So tempted to get rid of state parents.

I have several families who's tuition is paid by the state. Utah is really great about making it easy for providers EXCEPT that parents "forget" to send in their review paperwork and so funds get delayed.

Couple with 3 kids have known for 2 weeks that their case had been closed due to not sending in paperwork. I checked the state web site and saw yesterday that zero will be available to transfer tomorrow on the first.

I'm so angry. The dad says "well, we just need to reapply that's all. You know you'll get the money!"

But not for December...when I need it most!

They were so mad this morning when I told them no cash, no care. They knew it was in the contract but thought I'd "be nice" about it!

The dad told me that grandpa would have to watch them until the state funds came in and that it was going to be "inconvenient" for them all.

Well guess what, buddy? It's "INCONVENIENT" for me to be $1200 short right before Christmas! What the he!!.........

I know that the problem is that not one single penny comes from their pocket, so they don't give a rat's patooty and don't feel any sense of responsibility.

I am so ready to tell future callers that I don't take state pay.

I refuse to take any state paid and I have never regretted it one bit!

    I only do private pay.

Not saying that it's a bad thing, I just don't want to deal with the hassle of getting paid and the paper work.

I took pay from WI and it was really easy. The annoying thing was that the parent would get all the paperwork back the day after receiving it so as to avoid any delay but the county workers didn't process the paperwork until after it's due date so there was always a delay any way. Since those kids left I haven't taken any other state paid and am dropping my clearance to do so cause the paperwork and dealing with county workers is just such a pain.

Will you take them back once it is active again?
          - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

In the past when I took state paid clients and my payment was dependent on their actions (such as turning in their part of the paperwork) I would charge them a late fee for late payment.

After all, it was their fault the payment didn't get made so the late fee was the result of their actions (or lack of).

Not sure. This is the first time they have screwed up even though the dad's "what's the big deal?" attitude rubbed me the wrong way this morning. I was going to take their baby which is due in February too. Now I am wary of putting that many eggs in one basket. My hubby thinks they may learn their lesson if I am strong now..........ggrr...gonna think about that one some more.

I think this happens everywhere. This happened to me last Christmas. I didn't receive the November or December check so I know how you feel. And you're right...the parents don't care. It isn't their money so why should they?? If it wasn't for receiving occasional grants from our program I wouldn't accept state paid children either but the year before I started providers received a $4000 grant and this past year it was $2200. That helps a lot. Good for you for the "no cash no care"! I need a better backbone!

Our State makes it very hard. So, I won't take State pay at all. Between the State screwing it up, and taking over my life, I don't want to rely on the parents to pull their own weight too.
