No I will not give Tylenol

To alleviate fever so he can come to daycare!!!!!! Can everyone repeat after me????

If your child has a fever, and you give them Tylenol, and their fever goes down, they are STILL SICK. It's not rocket science, it's like wearing a hat to cover your roots. You take the hat off,... Roots still there !!!!!!! Tylenol wears off fever comes back. Tylenol just MASKS THE SYMPTOMS it doesn't cure the illness!!!!!!! Just like putting a hat on. It just MASKS THE PROBLEM it doesn't fix it!!!!

        Agreed!! Amen Sistah!

Even with a policy that says
        *DC will not medicate
*24 hours without symptoms of exclusion .. do not mistake for 24 hours from initial onslaught of symptoms
        *24 hours medicine free
*Bringing a child to daycare sick is immediate grounds for termination
*Masking a child's illness with medication is immediate grounds for termination
        And my all time favorite:
*Do not send a sick child to daycare by giving a fever/pain reducer to mask the symptom. The effects of the medication will eventually wear off (usually between 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. if given in the morning) and it will be obvious to the child care provider that the child was given medication.

I still tend to get the "iffy" children in the am that suspiciously get picked up early for the day ... about 4 to 6 hours after being dropped off... hmm... let's read the fever reducer label now shall we "reapeat dose after 4 to 6 hours as needed" ... interesting.
Oh and I still get the the phone calls that go like this "So, little Suzie's fever broke last night, can she go to daycare this morning?"

Like my poilicies still aren't clear enough???

Maybe we need sticky notes and stick it to their head as they leave.

I had one a few months ago that I called parents with a fever about 4pm and they wanted to bring the child back the next morning!!!!

And another parent want to bring their child back exactly 24 hours after I sent them home - I sent child home with a fever and I'm sure the fever didn't break as soon as you picked her up!!

Well I'm expecting totally for them to term. Dad was not happy. He point blank asked me If a center would medicate. I told him. I didn't know. That their rules and guidlines were different but that he would have to check into that himself. but that I do not administer meds. I just don't. If a child is needing Tylenol to get through the day they are too I'll to come. Period. He was less than happy.

I work in a Center and we do not medicate for a fever. Yikes!

If they are too sick to function without medication, they do not belong in Daycare.

It's very disheartening to see so many people are more concerned about their pocketbooks than the health of their own children - or anyone else's.

The chain reaction of illness is staggering. One sick child will infect the Daycare provider and every child in the room. They then go home and infect their own families. Now instead of one person missing out on a paycheck, you've got 20 or more missing out on theirs.
